what does every think about these two... what are the chances of landing either if not both...

side question --do you think a bad showing on the field this season can derail the recruiting that seems to have turned a corner?

Benn, yes. Austin, no. Don't lose sleep over Marvin Austin. The only way he comes to ND is as a USC Trojan.

Your side question: Yes, a bad season could have a horrible off the field effect on recruiting. But I don't see this team having one unless a wave of injuries hit them. If they get through September with one loss or none, they should sail into Los Angeles come November.

If they get roughed up for 4 or 5 losses, some of these guys might think twice who are on the fence. I don't see it happening. Lack of depth and open spots in 2007 will attract a lot of guys. The competition for playing time is there.

Oh, and it's Notre Dame, baby!!!

speaking of USC what is going on with the Bush invest.??? talk about something that can affect recruiting... has anyone heard anything... I didn't expect much until the D.J. thing was deemed a violation, I know D.J. will most likely not miss time but considering how small that was when held up to Bushgate and it was still looked at as a violation... then you have to figure something bigger is going to be handed down on SC for Bushgate ... and they can't take PT from Bush now, you you what I mean?... what you do all think?

I did think we had them both, but now I don't know if we have ethier one. I hope we get both. But I think Benn might not go to ND now.

Eh, take it easy. We're fine with Benn. His most recent quote:

"I'm looking at playing time and the stability of the head coach," Benn said. "I'm looking at the situation at my position and the quality of the quarterbacks. I'm also looking for somewhere that I'm going to feel comfortable."

Sounds pretty good for us. There might legitimately not be a more stable school in the country where coaching staffs are concerned than ND. Weis has said he will not give up the ND job to coach in the NFL. And as for Carroll? Hm... whose to know? USC, to the best of my knowlege, hasn't even released the information surrounding his most recent contract extension.

As for QBs, ND will have the best in Clausen and he got a chance to witness that fact in Cali. Benn knows he'll see immediate playing time at ND, most likely earning a starting position.

There isn't a better place in the country for him to be.

Miami? Nope. The coaching staff isn't what you'd call stable and their QBs aren't too great. They, in my opinion, are our biggest threat.

PS. It would appear as though we may have a silent verbal in this guy.. which isn't too big a surprise, but I thought the guys up north might take him away:

Im guilty !

Im guilty !

of surfing the Illini Scout Board and reading their dillusional fairy-tale illinoiskid is the saviour BS ! For those of you whom actually believe any of that crap, you might as well head on over to the bar and pick yourself up a 90 day supply of hard liquor, because your in for a long recruiting season, exspecially with the all the recruits the Illini are battling us for. Seriously, they truly are my absolute favorite site after a long day at work. I come home every evening and read all of their wet dream posts. Im still laughing at the one in particular that gboroirish was referring to, illinoisjockstrap's brother LMAO !!! That post has 105 replies last time I checked :jerkit:

Personally, I take Mike Frank's word over some IllinosJagoffs' (plural) getting their kicks playing recruitGOD while all of their dead fans come back to life. Seriously, that site use to have, at most, 10 -12 hits per day, they're now on the verge of board meltdowns thanks in part, to a few high-school kids making ridiculous gurantees ! I cant wait until Arrelious drops the bomb and the wolves begin to huddle, that will definitely make for some major entertainment one evening.

Now, on to your question. Marvin Austin in my opinion will end up at Miami or USC ! I honestly dont think we stand a chance, at all ! ever ! Despite all of the comments made from all the recruiting gurus (concerning the Big City atmosphere, the bright lights, the entertainment) I for one had my doubts the first time I seen his Scout Profile Pic. (the one sporting the big shades), call it stereotypical, but that was my first sign he wouldn't be considering ND in the long run. "My opinion,,," but very slim chance.

On Benn, He will not end up at Illinimagination ! There,,,my very own personal gurantee !

I hate to be a complete and utter dork, but the use of "whom" doesn't work here. "You" is the object of "of"...take out "of you" from this phrase and see if "whom" sounds right. 'For those whom actually believe...' (You would never say that...instead you would say 'For those who actually believe..." Use "whom," only when it is an object. In this case it is actually an adjective describing "those."

Now, I will go watch a school house rock...take a swig of whiskey, and go shoot myself out back for wasting my time on being a nerd. Hey, who knew? A southerner who actually knows grammar! Alright, without further ado, off to bid the world farewell!

PS(so that I remain on topic) - I think Benn is ours, Donald is not, ESPNs rankings further discount their credibility, and I still think Golden Tate is second rate. Go Irish!

good post irish laughed my backside off. for anyone that doubts...we have some top notch gentlemen on this site. How many times do they have to tell us benn is a lock b4 we take it to heart. chiiiiiiiillll my friends, it will all work out. Trully how many times have some of the main posters on this site told us certain kids were irish that the rest of the sporting world said not a chance.........and then they verballed. I'll stick with our guys, they tell it like it is.

Illinois fans don't even know who Arrelious Benn is.

"Is he a shooting guard? Can he play the '3' ?"

It would be like going to play football for Indiana or Kentucky.

This would be the biggest recruiting upset not only of the year, but maybe of the last decade. One of the top two WR in America goes to Illinois, who was 2-9 in 2005 (0-8 in the Big Ten) and took beat down after beat down each week? That's an after school special. Local kids, in state kids, mid tier kids want to go to Illinois.

Look at the schools he's already visited (ND multiple times). He hasn't set foot in Champaign yet to my knowledge.

I would not stress over Arrelious Benn being anywhere else but Notre Dame. A verbal to Illinois is very far fetched. A verbal to anywhere but ND would be an upset.

Illinois fans think they are getting all sorts of top players this year. It really is a freaking comedy show on their boards, especially Illinoiskid who says that Benn, Wilson and Hughes are locks.

From a Scout.com article today....

Benn visited Illinois recently, as it turns out.

He is also planning on announcing on September 6th, his birthday.

Yeah, Sherron Collins, Jon Scheyer, Derrick Rose...

They're the same way with basketball and they'll suffer the same tragic letdowns in football too. Their biggest needs they did not address last class were running back and weakside DE. Makes complete sense these guys are "locks."

No school that has lost the NCAA Basketball Championship Game has celebrated second place more.
