I'm hearing big things about Cal so far this summer. Some say they'll win the Pac 10.

Street and Smith took them 6th in America, 1st in the Pac 10.

Surprised to see LSU so low. Thought that they would be near the top of the list.

Go Cal. I'm just on the other side of the bridge from them and plan on going to several of their games. They don't sell out anyways.

This is my surprise as well. I think of all the top teams, LSU is the most balanced and has the least question marks. They may not do any one thing great, but neither do they have any apparent weaknesses. I don't think you can say that about any of these other teams.

I would put LSU at number one, their only real question is who their qb is, all three are capable. I would also put Oklahoma and Auburn up a little higher. I would slot ND around five. I think defense and kicking game could be shaky. Also, what could be a killer September schedule.

The SEC is way too tough for me to think anyone of them can survive unbeaten. But since Auburn did it a few years ago....

LSU has a road trip to Auburn in September, Florida in October and Tennessee in November. That's a beast of a schedule.

Out of conference, they're fine. And they should win all of their home games as well. They will lose one of those three at least, though.

I agree completely, but I'd point out that a one-loss LSU team recently won a NC (the BCS in the first year of Petey's "One-Peat").

On the flip side of the schedule question, does anyone really believe WV is the third best team in the country? Their lofty ranking must surely be a function of a sissy Big Least schedule... I'd pick them fourth in the SEC West, behind LSU, Auburn, & Alabama.

Their schedule and amount of returning starters, plus a BCS win have a lot of people buzzing on WVU.

My problem isn't even WVU's Big East schedule. The defections aren't their fault and I can't hold their conference against them. In fact, I think WVU and UL would show well in stronger conferences. My problem is the non-con slate of Marshall, Eastern Washington, Maryland, East Carolina and Miss. St. That group compiled a 24-32 record. The only team with a winning record was 7-5 Eastern Washington, a IAA team. Playing a IAA team to begin with should disqualify you from title consideration.
