When I was 18 coming out of high school, I was nothing more than a DIII caliber player. Genetics be damned. But I loved the game, and I was not ready to quit playing. That played some role in my choice of schools. It wasn't everything, but it did make a difference in the process.
I can understand. Many people just love to play the game. And this is their last chance. Yes, ND's education is great. But a guy willing to put in the work, but get a great education just about anywhere. The difference at ND is, everyone is expected to put in that amount of work.
There is nothing wrong with this kid's decision. I wish him nothing but luck.
