It's a pragmatic move and a good one at that. If he is a good football player and only he knows if he is, then he has to go to another program to get playing time.

If he isn't NFL-caliber and he knows it, then I don't see why he's choosing to transfer. Notre Dame is a great school and it's too much to give up.

I don't think he's NFL caliber (I saw him in high school a few times) but I do think he's love to play football. I think that is what his decision is all about. he just wants to play. I do see your point however on transferring from ND and that great degree.

He was in a no-win situation unless, God forbid, Quinn got hurt. Even then he was not the #2 man...

I wish him the best. The kid has exhibited class in leaving and his parents have been cool as well.

I think David has a much better shot at being a professional Halo II player than making it to the NFL. He's a good guy and all but i don't see it working out for him

I would transfer to if I was David. I would want to play and with Jones, Zach, and Jimmy coming in he doesn't stand a chance to play.

David really had no major offers to play anywhere out of high school. He had some high expectations for himself if he thought he was ever going to start at ND. Not many 2 star QB's have started at ND(Dillingham?). Oh well, I won't lose any sleep over this.

He'll probably get more attention from schools now because he has been coached by Weis for one year and was in a good system for a year, he could be a good gap filler for some school out there.

Not a big surprise here. I think we all knew someone would leave, but it was just a matter of who. I think Sharpley is now firmly in the driver's seat as BQ's backup. I'm not going to count the other two kids out who are coming in, though.

I think this goes to show you how little emphasis kids place on the Notre Dame education that we talk about all of the time. It's merely fluff to them, as they'd rather go to Middle Tennessee State and play.

Good luck to him, but this was a bad decision. Hold a clipboard and get that degree. Then use your Notre Dame alumni base to get a nice job.

I'm not sure we're being fair to Wolke here. He was the backup QB last year. Who knows what would have happened if Quinn had gone down. He might have stepped in and been amazing. After all, let's not forget that he's had a year of coaching under Weis and that seems to make a big difference. It might even help him go to an SEC school and light it up. Sure, he wasn't all that highly-rated coming out of high school, but low-ranked high school guys turn into NFL draft picks every year.

I know what you guys are saying about education, but chances are playing football is his dream. I think you have to follow that first. If he were my kid, that's what I'd tell him to do.

When I was 18 coming out of high school, I was nothing more than a DIII caliber player. Genetics be damned. But I loved the game, and I was not ready to quit playing. That played some role in my choice of schools. It wasn't everything, but it did make a difference in the process.

I can understand. Many people just love to play the game. And this is their last chance. Yes, ND's education is great. But a guy willing to put in the work, but get a great education just about anywhere. The difference at ND is, everyone is expected to put in that amount of work.

There is nothing wrong with this kid's decision. I wish him nothing but luck.

best of luck to Wolke........now how might this change the Qb recruiting in the coming years??? I would expect the Irish to pursue a qb in the class of '09 and skip '08....thoughts?

Yup...this will probably be his last chance to fulfill that dream. While its tough to walk away from a great school...he wants to complete his dream.

He could still go to a Yale/Harvard and become the starter...crazier things have happened!

Best of luck to the kid...

Let's not knock Middle Tennessee State, I went to school there.

He will leave with respect. He had nothing but good things to say about the school, coaches and players especially Quinn. I wish him much luck.
