I think we need at least one more CB in this class for depth, don't you?

I think two would suffice, what with Walls and McNeil being mainstays for some years once they get on campus. They only plan on taking two from what reports are saying.

That D Line is where I am most concerned. Thus, I don't like moving Trattou to DT. Take 3 DE and 3 DT, at least. I still like the idea of 4 DT or even 4 DE.

The O line needs tackles. 2 at least in this class, again probably three. Summers-Gavin would be a nice interchangeable kind of guy with center and guard.

I'd like one more for depth purposes. I'd take one less LB or WR if needed.

I keep looking at 2008 and hope that both Walls and McNeil are healthy and up to speed by then, because outside of them, we really have nothing. We're likely going to be losing our entire secondary and nobody behind them is proven yet.

The idea of taking 2 corners in 2007 is solid. Lambert and Ferrine each have an extra year, so they'll both be around in 2008 correct? I think Sergio Brown could play some corner too.

Both lines really need depth. This staff is really in the process of restocking the cupboard. I hate looking at the depth chart/roster because you just don't realize it until you see it on paper.

What about Mark Barnes or Ronald Johnson? And does Ben Martin have a date when he is going to announce?

Barnes will go the way of the Visor. I think Ronald Johnson is staying up north.

No date for Martin as far as anyone has reported. I think ND, tOSU, PSU and Florida could get visits.

Everything I have seen says RoJo likely stays in Michigan though I don't think they are a lock yet. Barnes still has us high on the interest list but likely stays in South Carolina I think.

I was surprised to see Summers Gavin there in the list. I know he is listed pretty highly but hadn't seen any real news on him on these boards and did not get the feeling we were pulling real hard to get him.

Guys - please correct me if I'm wrong here anywhere.

Looking at Jigga's list, looks pretty good to me. I think I'd be happy with that group. Boy - if we could get a surprise in there somewhere though and get either Austin, Gallippo to decommit, or Major Wright - that would be alright.

Here's what I'd love to see:

QB- Jimmy Clausen (1)
RB- Caleb King, Robert Hughes (2)
WR- Duval Kumara, Arrelious Benn, Gerald Jones (3)
TE- Mike Ragone (1)
OT- Ryan Miller, Lee Ziemba, Matt Romine (3)
OG- James Wilson (1)

DE- Kerry Neal, Ben Martin, Martez Wilson (3)
DT- Justin Trattou, Joseph Barksdale, Will Blackwell (3)
LB-Aaron Nagel, Steve Paskorz, Greg Little, Lorenzo Edwards (4)
CB- Michael Williams, Tony Logan (2)
S- Nick Sukay (1)

The biggest stretch in the list is clearly King, but I have a feeling we'll surprise when it comes to which RB we get. Otherwise, I must say - I love the versatility of the guys we're going after. So many of these players can be listed at multiple positions.

winely, I threw Summers Gavin on there kind of late.

Steve Hare just did on article on him this past Tuesday. I like getting another center to go along with Danny Wenger, but Summers Gavin is by far the most athletic lineman I have seen video clips of thus far. I think he can play tackle or guard as well. He speaks favorably of Coach Polian, Notre Dame and the interest seems to be mutual at this point despite no offer as of yet.

Matt Romine, Chris Little and Derek Sherrod all appear likely to stay closer to home. Summers-Gavin is my darkhorse guy in the class. I don't think Nic Pozderac gets an offer anymore unless Ziemba and/or Wilson go somewhere else.

If I had my way, the class would look like this in a perfect world:

QB- Clausen
RB- Tyler, Hughes
WR- Kumara, Benn, Thompson
TE- Ragone
OL- Miller, Ziemba, Wilson, Stroter, Summers Gavin

DE- Neal, Trattou, Martin
DT- Austin, Barksdale, Wade
LB- Nagel, Paskorz, Brian Smith, Martez Wilson
CB- Dionte Allen, Marcus Gilchrist
S- Mark Barnes

That's just sick.

Interestingly enough, Dionte Allen tells Jason Sapp of BGI that Charlie Weis is saying that they want to take 3 corners in this class.

Allen is at the top of their list. An Allen, Gilchrist, Williams trio would be nice. I guess ND is in touch with Allen frequently.

Now I think they take one running back. When Tyler goes to SC this week, Hughes will get his offer and they'll be done when Hughes goes ND.

Jigga: Allen and Gilchrist would be nice just the two of them...I'd settle for it but you are exactally right; 3 corners seems a bit strange maybe more nickel and dime packages?

The thing is, they're considering Michael Williams a Corner and most people think he'll play safety. So maybe they're looking at 3 corners and 1 safety. Especially since they took quite a few safety's last year.

After last year, we can't get enough secondary help. I say, let's load up on 'em just so we don't ever get burned like we did last year, and the year before, and the year before.

I think they are intent on making Michael Williams a corner and they have faith that he can be able to learn the position.

When you look at the roster broken down by year, they really are thin. I don't like their chances with Dionte Allen, but Gilchrist could be a possibility should he come in for a visit. They've got to work hard on him. Maybe landing Little will help, giving ND two recruits from NC this year.

Putting Jones at CB for now, adding Tate as an RB.

Dropped Barksdale for Wade. Dropped Ziemba and Summers Gavin, adding Romine.

Gotta ask why you dropped Ziemba out. I thought we had the best shot at him of all the OLs.

Also, why no Lorenzo Edwards? Sounds like academics are the key to his decision (his dad's a doctor, or something) and it looks like it will be ND and FLA. I think our chances are very good with him - do you just prefer other recruits, or do you think he'll choose another school?

I can't see getting Ziemba and Miller. I like their chances with Miller better for now. I also have a feeling they'll come on strong with Romine as well. Ziemba strikes me as the kid who will stay home in state when it all comes to an end.

Lorenzo Edwards was listed.

How about this? That would look pretty sweet.

It is so tough to get a grip on what this class could look like. Lots of versitile players that can play mulitiple positions. More than anything, there are more guys waiting to get through admissions than I can recall in years. Seems like quite a few of these kids are academic tweeners.

The guys with offers I feel good about are Benn, Little, Miller, Wilson, Martin, Tez Wilson, Williams and Zo Edwards.

Bump.

Smith and Donald appear to be in good standing with ND.

That's a top ten class easy.

That would be a good class... Although, what would happen if we got Caleb King and the three Florida guys (Thompson, McCray and Davis)...?

Probably would never happen, but you would have to think that this would be the number one class.

I don't think a lot of those kids get past admissions.

Greg Little is being recruited as a WR by all of his major offers. I think his recent comments about visiting Clausen indicate he's pretty serious about ND, more so than many of us might have believed.

If ND takes those two kids out of Tennessee, I'll flip.

I know that we've been recruiting Little all along as a WR, but I wonder if that might change now that we're doing so well in WR recruiting. Especially since it sounds like JR Hemingway is high on ND and that we have a shot at Deonte Thompson too.

This class is about a third of the way full. If these guys have genuine interest as they say they do, we could have another logjam on our hands where guys are on the outside looking in yet again.

Good stuff.

I.I. is reporting Marcus Gilchrist is NOT likely to visit this summer.

21 of those 25 guys I listed above are in the Top 250. That's a top ranked class hands down.
