New NCAA Transfer Rule

If you haven't heard, the NCAA approved a transfer rule for 5th year players that have already received their degree. Basically, it allows for them to transfer anywhere without any penalty. As you can imagine, some college coaches are pretty pissed about this rule.

This new rule could raise some very interesting ethical issues if you see kids switching for a chance to win a National Championship, where they can get more exposure, etc. Guess it could also mean that college coaches will redshirt more selectively.

Also, if you are one or two players away from a championship, it could affect recruiting as you could take a 5th year guy for one year over getting a 4 year kid. Interesting to say the least and could open a pandora's box. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Oh, by the way, the rule was pushed through the NCAA without informing most college coaches. There is a large group of coaches organizing to try and get this rule removed. Be that as it may, it is already being taken advantage of.

After losing Jay Cutler to the NFL, Vanderbilt has taken Arizona QB Richard Kovalcheck. If not overturned, I think you could see quite a bit of activity next year.

could benefit ND. We're not allowed to take JUCOs which sets us back a bit because other schools are able to grab these kids and at the very least strengthen their depth charts for a couple of years.

If ND has a weak spot somewhere on their depth chart we could grab some kid for one year to help fill that void, kind of like a juco.

I don't know if ND would have any rules against accepting a 5th year senior but I don't see what the problem would be as long as they meet the academic requirements..

a lot of people had a problem with Matt Leinart taking ballroom dancing this year, if this rule stays a lot of kids with degrees will transfer and basically take one class like ballroom dancing and essentially be football players and not students.

Yeah, I saw this a couple weeks ago it pissed me off something else. The NCAA is becoming more and more business and less and less about the student athlete.
