It is being reported that Notre Dame has offered Texas A&M verbal Bradley Stephens. This is a head scratcher and probably wouldn't be done unless there is more to the situation... I wouldn't think anyways.

Guess I need to create a profile for him.

I do know this, had Notre Dame offered before he signed with A&M, he would probably be Irish right now.

ND offered new RB

ND offered new RB

ND offered RB Bradley Stephens. Stephens is committed to Texas A&M. Charlie must have some inside info that he is reconsidering his initial verbal. However the article said he found the article flattering but was still committed to A&M. Strange move if you ask me.

It sounds like he is unhappy with the coaching situation at A&M which I know absolutely nothing about so can someone fill me in?

I heard hes a lot like an Armando Allen with a little less speed... fair comparison?

Basically A&M's coach is between a rock and a hard place. The powers to be at the school want him to win more, they want a Big XII title. Which isn't going to happen, so he could very well be canned at the end of the season.

This is a little picky by me, and I am not trying to single out Big Matt. He did not sign, he committed. The recruits don't sign their LOI until Feb 1. I just see this mix up on a lot of boards.

Coach Fran probrably has a lot to do this possible change of heart. If he doesn't do something huge this year(win 7-8 games) than I imagine he will be gone.

Texas A&M made a big mistake when they fired R.C. Slocum.

I mean he coached for 14 seasons and won .741 of his games and never had a losing season.

Franchione meanwhile had a losing season in his 1st and 3rd.

Franchione had a ton of promise, though. Then, he sold out two programs to make it to A&M and then Karma caught up to him.

Well, he had a ton of promise coming in, but I don't think it was karma. I think he inherited A&M and found it much more difficult to succeed, unlike Alabama and TCU. A retarded chimp could coach TCU and win 6 games.

Never get rid of a coach who's got a .741 winning percentage over 14 years. Notre Dame would consider it, but even ND would be dumb to actually do it. For a Texas A&M (a school with good tradition, but second or third tier, historically) it's suicidally stupid.

I have pondered this Stephens offer and I don't think it makes much sense. I also haven't seen anyone else other than Rivals/II report it, so who knows.

We talked about Stephens in previous posts some time back. Great player with tremendous speed, but they didn't get on the boat early enough and he's an Aggie verbal.

Why would ND offer him now, this late into the game, when he's already verballed?

It makes zero sense. I don't think he has an offer.

Here is an article from when he verballed three months ago....

Stephens commits to Texas A&M
February 26,2006
The Monitor

McALLEN — It’s unofficially official: Bradley Stephens will join the Texas A&M Aggies.

Stephens, the 5-foot-11, 192-pound record-breaker from McAllen Memorial, verbally committed to the Aggies, ironically, after a group meeting with Texas football coach Mack Brown.

"Coach (Mack) Brown was talking to a group of us at junior day," Stephens said, referring to the gathering with prospective underclassmen in Austin, "and he said you should make a decision then instead of wasting people’s time."

After thinking about Brown’s advice, Stephens settled on the Aggies.

"Really a lot of things played in to it," Stephens said. "For quite a while A&M has been the top school on my list."

Among the schools bidding for Stephens’ services were Texas, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Notre Dame and Michigan, to name a few. As a junior, Stephens had scholarship offers from A&M, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State and Houston.

Stephens rushed for 2,622 yards in 10 games during 2005 and planned on making his verbal commitment before the 2006 football season. Though Stephens has chosen Texas A&M, the commitment won’t be binding until he signs a national letter of intent Feb. 7, 2007.

"What (Brown) said was very true," Stephens said. "A&M has been on the top of my list, and that’s really where my heart has been set to go."

All of this makes me think Tyler has indicated he will be a Condom. Any word on that?

Tyler seems to be 50-50 and will be announcing sometime in June.

I doubt offering Stephens has anything to do with Tyler.

i remember reading an article on tyler and he said that if he commits early it'll most likely be to ND but if he waits toward the end of the year it'll most likely be to USC.

Seems like Tyler said he wanted to see a game at Ann Arbor before he verbally committed. So how is it that he will possibly be making his decision in June? Did I miss something???
