He said the university is negotiating to play in Jacksonville and Orlando, Fla., New Orleans and Dallas. The school is looking at existing bowl-game organizations to help stage the contests.

Reading through the lines, why were these places chosen? RECRUITING. Great, great move on the part of Notre Dame in doing this. We are effectively taking it to the SEC and Texas in doing this.

We came for your daughter, Chuck. We'll take your best HS talent, too.

He said the games aren't truly neutral-site games, but home contests played away from South Bend. They will not be against what White described as "heavyweights."

"We have enough heavyweights on the schedule," he said. "We need to have a schedule that's conducive to success."

Some Notre Dame fans have criticized the team's upcoming schedules, saying they are not as tough as they have been. White said he is not trying to put together the nation's most difficult schedule.

"We need to schedule in a way it puts us in a position to win national championships. We could have a great football team and schedule ourselves out of a championship. You can schedule yourself in, you can schedule yourself out," he said. "The last time I checked, the most important thing here is to try to win national championships. That's what we're trying to do."

i agree with White...do you need to play the best to be considered the best??? sure you do, however, that doesnt mean going crazy by scheduling 5 or 6 top 10 or 15 teams a year, you can still balance it out with moderate teams, I have no problem with this, as long as we play SC, UM, and alternating power houses(Alabama, Texas, Penn St, OSU type teams) every year, who cares if we play Nevada, or Georgia Tech

What White said you just 'don't say' in the world of sports. It's rife with defeatism.

To a large degree, I agree with his decision. At the very least it will be a recruiting tool and will allow many ND fans who are unable to make it to South Bend to watch a game in a closer location.

It does make me feel as though the team is more independent, I love the policy.

It's a recruiting move, first and foremost. It's not a shock that the games are going to be played where we are currently not recruiting well... Texas, Florida, and Louisiana. Weis wants to get the Irish in front of kids down there and start plucking away talent from the SEC and Big 12.
