Fox Recruiting Buzz - Wilson update

Recent Fox article had a new name I hadn't heard much talk of - Nathan Stupar, a DE. The other interesting news was that Martez Wilson said he did not have an ND offer yet and Miami was his dream school. I found that a little disappointing. Long time to go though.

Man, both Martez Wilson and Hughes dream schools are Miami? Disappointing.

"Dream school" has become a cliche in recruiting. The term doesn't carry much weight anymore.

My bet is that if we offer, Wilson will accept, eventually.

Miami had that nice run in 2000-2002 where the HS kids this age got to see them as youngsters. They churn out NFL players better than just about everyone.

Martez Wilson is a lot more open now because he has way more options than he did a month ago. I liked ND's chances, but now it appears they'll have more competition than we thought. The secret is out on Wilson.

I remember seeing his video when Edgy Tim first posted it and thinking to myself, by some miracle, I hope this tape doesn't get into the wrong hands. He has the USC and Ohio State types crawling around now.

Since when does Martez Wilson not have a ND offer? I thought it was Hughes that didn't have a ND offer, and it was Miami that was his dream school? IMO Wilson will be Irish, to close of proximity to Chicago, and he'd be walking in to too good of a situation at ND.

I know, but I can't ever remember in any interviews anywhere Wilson stating Miami as a dream school. That was Hughes that said that. Am I wrong in this assumption?

I haven't seen or read the Wilson one myself, but I saw the Hughes interview when he said it.

It was in the article linked in the initial post:

The Midwest with Chris Pool
Martez Wilson, a 6-4, 230-pound, athlete, from Simeon high in Chicago, Ill., has emerged as a "Top 10" Midwestern prospect, according to Scout.com. Wilson had 400 yards and five touchdowns receiving as a junior and had 99 tackles and 18 sacks on the defensive side of the football. Wilson has several scholarship offers under his belt. Martez told Scout.com that USC, Notre Dame, Illinois, Michigan, Kansas State, Iowa and Michigan State are his current leaders. Notre Dame hasn't offered a scholarship yet. Wilson also said that the Miami Hurricanes are his dream school.

How reliable is the article? How can Wilson be quoted as saying he doesn't have an offer, when he clearly does?

I didn't read a date on the article. Did he get the offer before or after? Also, sometimes the article has been compiled over a week or two so maybe he spoke with Wilson prior to receiving the offer?

I'm not sure. I believe he's had one for atleast two weeks but I could be wrong. In the end I just don't see him at Miami. ND owns (or will come to own) Chicago. What is your confidence level for him? He would be a great get IMO. Long, fast and strong. A playmaker as well.

Wilson tells Kevin Delgado of BGI a couple of things:

1. At this time he has no favorites. He is listening to what everyone had to say in light of recent offers from ND, Nebraska, tOSU and USC.

2. Hughes has a very big interest in Notre Dame, but does not have an offer. Wilson does(If BGI says he does, then he does). The two of them would like to commit together, but if one finds a situation that is different and can't pass it up, it won't work that way. Translated = = Wilson wants to go to ND but if Tyler goes to ND and there is no room for Hughes, Wilson would still go anyway.

3. Both recently touted Miami as their "dream school" but Wilson, in regards to that, reiterated that he has no favorites as this time.

Hughes and Wilson are apparently as close to being a packaged deal as you can be. But Wilson's comment is a tell all. Ulimately, I hope Weis decides to take both Tyler and Hughes because I think ND can and will have both. Getting Wilson, however, would be the most important grab of the three IMO.

“Yeah, we are thinking of committing together,” said Wilson. “That’s the plan, at least. If it turns out that one of us has a better situation, it wouldn’t happen like that. But for right now, we’re planning on committing together at the end of the season.”

Thanks for the update. I hope we get all three of them. Is Hughes open to playing other positions other than RB?

He only plays running back and I haven't heard him mentioned as anything else. I don't think he has linebacker size, but he'd make a nice RB/FB.

I don't think that Hughes is high on the priority list. I know that you guys like Hughes and undoubtedly he is a good player but Charlie is focused on Marc Tyler and Gerald Jones, I believe.

I believe that Clausen and Weis are all over Marc Tyler and it will be almost impossible for him to choose anywhere but ND. Armondo Allen and Gerald Jones are being recruited at Tailback. Allen, I believe will stay in the South whereas, Gerald Jones is open and excited about ND. Weis and Haywood have been to visit him and with the offer they are showing that he is a more intriguing prospect than Hughes for their offence.

I've been hearing several suggestions that Gerald Jones and Golden Tate are being recruited as running backs.

What is interesting about Gerald Jones is that he takes the snaps as a QB. Tate's talents are similar, although he appears faster. Tate's defensive highlights stand out to me. I like him as a cornerback, but he's got raw skills to get plugged in anywhere. He's also a pretty good baseball player and is getting college and MLB looks there too.

I still think ND ends up with Tyler and Hughes in the end. I'm hoping this class does include Tyler and a fullback.
