“I’m 70 percent sure I’m going to commit to Notre Dame,” said Marc Tyler (6-0, 214, 4.55) of Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, Calif. “Jimmy (Clausen) committing there is definitely a big influence in my decision. It would be great to play together in college.”

Says he still wants to talk to USC and visit Michigan. Otherwise, he and dad loved what they saw at ND this weekend.

He told this to Allen Wallace of Scout.com today.

Big time news. My dream of Aldridge and Tyler stomping on defenses for years to come could be realized.

Wow. This would be a big one. Two big time skill players taken from USC out of their own back yard.

Poodle, the gauntlet has been officially dropped.

We almost beat your Dream Team with sub par talent last year. What do you think it's going to be like when we have Dream Team talent, too?

I wouldn't say that we had subpar talent....by the end of the year our offensive players were bringing home big time numbers and our special teams were superior to that of USC's. USC's weakness last year was its defensive backfield...there poor defense was just better then ours.

This is not to put down our talent. I love them and there are some great prospects among them. But our talent level on that field was nowhere near USC's.

Quinn, the Shark and Zibby stack up, but we had nobody as talented as Reggie Bush. Then again, next year neither will they. Guys like that are special, even for the big dogs.

LOL, he they find a pooper scooper for poodle if we keep winning these head to head battles w/USC. Tyler would be great, and it's sounding very good w/this kid. Great time to be and ND fan. Looks as if the dark years are finally getting brighter.

Well guys, 70 % is not 100% but it is great to hear!!! With the amount of time he has spent at USC, I would think that Poodle and his bunch are out and the 30% belongs to Michigan. When he visits Manboobs he will close that 30% and become a Notre Dame verbal.

I also noticed that Scout has him listing 'High Interest' only in ND now. Previously, he showed High Interest for both us and USC.

All due respect but college football only sees a player like Reggie Bush once every decade it seems...he was something truely special but other then Bush I don't think that USC was that much more superior then the talent we had last year.....take away Bush from that game and its very even in terms of talent.

The other thing that could be a problem are grades. While a 2.5 gpa may be good enough to get an offer(if you are a good enough player), he will be expected to improve his marks or it may be difficult for him to find the field. I hope he is comfortable with the amount of classroom work he will have to put in to improve his grades. It's not high school anymore, it's Notre Dame!!!

I guess we'll agree to disagree. They have the possibility of having 4 1st round picks and 8-10 players draft all together. It wasn't even close in terms of talent.

But you CAN'T take away Bush. He was there. He counts toward the talent total.

USC was more talented and deeper last year.

Yes, we had some guys that toe to toe were just as talented. Simply not as many as they did. Take some pleasure in the fact that a more talented team escaped alive by the skin of their teeth and with just a little push. Imagine what ND will look like when our talent gets up there, and if Charlie keeps beat Poodle on the trail, actually passes them.

These arguments of "if so and so hadn't played, we've have done such and such."

I do not buy them one bit.

Charlie Weis had to keep the ball away from USC in that game and still lost by three. Jarrett, Smith, Byrd, Bush....scorched the defense. Look at the time of possession and the 34 points on the board.

USC was so deep it was sick. Think about who they lost to the draft and who was injured....and they still came within 3 points of Texas in the Rose Bowl.

I loathe them as much as anyone, but on the field football talent? Top to bottom depth charts are not even close.

i know scouts has marc tyler rated as a 5-star player (rivals most likely will too) but can anyone tell me how good marc tyler is. i think i might rather see ND land brandon saine someone how has much better speed to go along with james aldridges power.

I am just saying that talent is the main factor take for instance the 1992 Notre Dame team that was loaded with super stars...that team fell short of major expectations and a 1993 team who had no stars on offense came within a play of the national championship...talent only carries you so far as USC showed...ND's heart and desire at home made up in a lot of areas for the talent issue.

How good is Tyler

How good is Tyler

In response to the question as to how good Tyler is, ESPN has ranked the top 100 and given them a score of 90-100 being a rare prospect, 80-89 aplayer who dominates every game in high school and who could be a starter as a freshman, and 70-79 a player who may not dominate against every player, especially other top players but someone who could be a good starter before leaving college.

There were only 2 players above a 90 (so far - likely to change as the year goes on). The two players were Clausen and Tyler.

I hope not. One of the reasons I'm a ND fan is because they do it right. Any school can push a kid through college. ND needs to be above that. I don't care if the player is the second coming of Bo Jackson, if he isn't legitimately making the grades then bench him.

I believe Weis has standards that he won't comprise for the sake of a win. If ND begins to turn into Miami by the Lake I'm out. There are a lot of things I can do with my Saturdays in the fall. I'm still naive enough to believe that you can win with student athletes.

Thats why Svoboda is our beloved Administrator. Charlie and them actually DO keep you eligible, however, with an extensive network of study programs and tutors. ND does a really good job of making sure you get an education. I really don't think your incoming numbers matter that much when you are a football player, as long as you show the ability to learn. At ND, besides football, you have class, class, and more class, whether it is official class or outside work for class. Look at Zorich, his incoming numbers weren't that great, but he did just fine.

Tyler basically needs to improve his speed a bit, but aside from that he's a battering ram. I would really love to see Aldridge and Tyler carry the load in 2007 as Weis develops a young QB. Of course, Darius Walker will be there too.

You'll see Saine playing at Notre Dame stadium. But he'll be wearing one of those ugly winged helmets.

Don't worry about it duff. ND gives the right kind of help. Not answers to tests, but tutoring and study hall.

That is the point I was trying to make. Is he going to be afraid of the work it is going to take to maintain or better his grades in college. That may scare him to a school that he perceives will be less work.
