Notre Dame AD says school committed to Big East

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Notre Dame is committed to staying in the Big East Conference, athletic director Kevin White said Monday.

"We've been a member of the Big East for nearly 11 seasons now, and we couldn't be more excited about the current state of the conference and its future prospects," White said.

White made the statement in response to a media report that he had hinted Notre Dame might re-examine its place in the Big East after the league's television contract expires following next season.

"That couldn't be further from the truth, and I say that with emphasis," White said.

He said the fact that the school has agreed to play three Big East football teams a year starting in 2011 is evidence of its dedication to the conference. Notre Dame is an independent in football.

Just Stay Indy in football, I don't mind being in the BE in other sports but I wish they would make the Bowl rules and what not more clear, I'm sick of all the misinformation that goes on...

The amount of people that think ND can steal the BE BCS bowl boggles the mind

I also like the BE, especially for basketball. Good competition and good exposure.

I don't want to ever see ND give up its football independence, but Kevin White essentially did that with the new BCS agreement. Keeping 100% of our BCS earnings was one of the major selling points of staying independent, but to get that guaranteed $1M KW sacrificed a lot of potential earnings, even more so if Charlie proves to be as successful as we all hope he will be.

And what really makes me mad is the fact that ND doesn't just funnel its BCS earning back into athletics, but rather we use that money to provide scholarships and improve our academic programs.

I'm not so sure ND had much of a choice in the matter, the BCS schools were not happy losing all that possible money to ND, and they had a lot more votes than ND did.

It's all about standards, IMO. When it comes to Notre Dame football KW has made one mistake after another because he simply does not understand and embrace the high standards that are placed upon our football program. KW traded our full share of BCS earnings for a guaranteed $1M payout every year and reduced our standards to qualify for a BCS game so that we could qualify more often (yet only be paid $4.5M per appearance). Rather than acting in Notre Dame's best interests he resigned us to the status of Indiana or Vanderbilt or any other conference cellar dweller. He felt we would be better off with the guaranteed $1M while failing to realize that even Bob (and almost Ty) was able to make it to a BCS game often enough to make a full payout worth keeping.

Notre Dame is the most popular sporting brand in the US and this bargaining chip should have been more than enough for KW to use. A BCS agreement without Notre Dame would be worthless and KW should have worked hard to keep our full share. Other BCS schools might not have liked our deal, but the BCS and bowl presidents wouldn't dare turn away Notre Dame for obvious financial reasons. Simply put, we don't enjoy the automatic berths and other advantages that conferences do so why should we share the money we earn with them? Our participation or lackthereof in the BCS is worth enough money that enough voting members would agree to us keeping our full share.

If you do the math you realize that KW cost ND millions of dollars because he felt that we either could not or would not ever be the power that we have been in the past. He essentially relegated us to conference status.

Why are people so sure that White had a choice in the Matter, Every year ND made a BCS bowl game the conferences Lost money, I doubt they were happy with that...

ND now gets the exact same deal as every other team that is associated with the BCS...
