Good luck to him, to bad he won't be a part of the upcoming ND dynasty. On the other hand I thought all along that he would commit to Texas, but I did have some hope early on when he spoke about ND. Heres to Marvin Austin, you have a starting slot waiting for you.

What can you say, Texas is the new USC in my eyes. They are getting everyone from everywhere and will have another Top 3 class again this year if everything keeps going as it has.

Mack Brown is en fuego right now.

Actually, they aren't getting everyone from everywhere. They are getting almost everyone from Texas and a few from everywhere else. Unfortately, with the state of high school football in Texas, that's enough to win them a title.

Bummer. Some thought he was a strong ND lean.

Texas is on a roll. For Notre Dame, this makes the pursuit of Austin, Wade and Barksdale that much more important now.

Right... it was a phrase, not meant literally.

would either Austin, Wade, or Barksdale be considered ND leans?

Only Austin has an offer of the three, so it is really tough to say right now.

Wade and Barksdale are excellent students. Barksdale wants to be a (chemical?) engineer.

Some think that landing Benn will help get Austin, maybe vice versa.

Tough call. They offered Jones first, Austin second.

I'll guess Wade for the hell of it.

I'll bet my guy Richetti Jones ends up a Horn. Good thing I went to Steve and Barry's last night and picked up a Texas t-shirt for $7.98.

yeah I agree, but its still tough to lose your top d-line prospect so quickly....too bad jones didn't even take time to visit the campus....his decision may have been different...good luck to the kid and all....I would never trash a recruit...but I just think that if you have two favorites you should see both campuses and go to at least one game each.....anyway it hurts to lose the top prospect at a priority position.....but at least we can focus on the remaining DT prospects and get two guys who can contribute early....instead of waiting to the last minute like we did with McCoy...

keep in mind that there are always big-time prospects that develop out of their senior season - guys that are low on the radar right now but will be highly sought after by November '06. it's WAY too early to be concerned about missing out any one guy.

Agreed, but I think we're all a bit sensitive when it comes to these stud defensive tackles as acquiring a few is a very urgent need for this next class.

That is why guys like Darius Scott will have Rob Ianello's eyes all over them during camp and the first few HS games this fall.

Another flipside is that Texas is filling up their class very early. Let them hit the 20s before the season starts. That will leave a lot of prospects looking for somewhere else to go.

With 5 OL, are they going to have room for a 6th?

I only ask because Tray Allen is still uncommitted.

Somebody on IrishIllustrated posted this today. Not sure of the source.

Still have a shot at Andre Jones

Andress High School all-state defensive lineman Andre Jones has verbally committed to the University of Texas, according to online reports.

National football recruiting Web sites such as Rivals.com and SuperPrep.com, as well as the Austin-American Statesman and several fan-based sites, have the junior pledging to the national champion Longhorns on Tuesday.

"I committed to Texas this afternoon (Tuesday)," Jones is quoted on SuperPrep.com. "I just wanted to come home and talk it over with my mom. I set out the reasons why I wanted to go there, and she said they were real smart reasons, and I made the call (to) the coaches this afternoon."

However, verbal commit-ments are non-binding, and when contacted Wednesday, Jones insisted that other teams still are in the picture.

"Right now I'm still talking to Notre Dame and UTEP, and I plan on making my final decision next Thursday," he said.

Still think he goes to Texas. Why would he verbal and then say I'm still talking to ND and I am going to make my decision next week. I don't know if he has any plans to attend Junior Day, but if he doesn't then he is definately longhorns all the way.

Very Jason Kates-ish.
