Last night was the most embarrassed I've ever been to be an ND fan, football-wise or basketball-wise. And that is saying a lot considering all of the bad moments that there have been. We played with 0 energy, and Brey just sat back and watched. We had terrible lineups on the court. I will stand by Brey no matter what, but he was horrible last night. I mean were down ~15 with 12 mins left, and there is no pressure or anything? Cam was chucking up terrible shots, and he kept putting him in the game. Putting in Burgett was pathetic, plain and simple.

EA forced shots terribly, and Grant had a pretty off game. Its kind of funny that in the box score, everyone played well besides Atkins, Grant, and Cam, because everyone looked like they didn't want to be there last night.

I don't think it's that complicated.

When this team had a bad match up, they got blown out all season long: Georgetown, Syracuse, Providence, Louisville, and now Iowa State. They just aren't good enough to play certain types of teams. I don't even know basketball too well (at least compared to football), but any guy with half a brain can tell you that they'll struggle against a good 2-3 zone, and an offense that spreads the floor well. Iowa State is the latter and it was obvious it wasn't going to go well.

I picked Iowa State in all three of my brackets, I was that convinced.

If they would have been any of the other seven seeds, they'd have been fine. If they switched spots with San Diego State....oh man!

Lastly, remember how talented this team is and consider how much more talented and athletic the guys coming in are.

PG: Atkins :s::s::s::s: #17 PG
SG: Grant :s::s::s: #29 SG
F: Connaughton :s::s::s: #29 SF
F: Knight :s::s::s: NR
F: Cooley :s::s::s: NR

Compared to the future:

G: Jackson :s::s::s::s: #6 PG #30 OVR
F: Biedscheid :s::s::s::s: #8 SF #28 OVR
F: Beachem :s::s::s::s: #15 SF #85 OVR
F: Auguste :s::s::s::s: #23 PF #97 OVR

I agree. Good post. I took ND in all 5 brackets I filled out though.

These are all incoming freshman for 2013? IDK anything about basketball recruiting but that seems really solid.

Watching Michigan play, I wouldn't mind seeing this next year:

Atkins 6'2
Grant 6'5
Connaughton 6'5
Biedscheid 6'6
Auguste 6'10

Compare that too:
Burke 6'0
Hardaway 6'6
Robinson III 6'6
Stauskas 6'6
McGary 6'10

I just can't watch Sherman and Knight's awful defense next year plus they don't offer a huge rebounding edge anyways

haha no Biedscheid and Auguste play a lot right now...

You know what angers me most about Brey this weekend? Watching Michigan and seeing a guy named McGary tear it up. Who is he? Oh, just an Irish kid who was the #30 overall recruit last year.

Where is he from?

Chesterton_IN.gif

Did he get an offer? No.

What. The. ****.

I was thinking the same thing Buster. McGary makes scUM a Final Four team IMO.

Michigan is playing out of their minds right now. It helps being in Auburn Hills for this.

I picked VCU to come out of this region. Uh oh. haha

Yeah they are incoming freshmen and are all pretty dynamic. They should really boost the athleticism up a notch.

Cameron at PF?

That could be disastrous imo. We could definitely run small for stretches, but we need two big games for a lot of our opponents.

Zach will be huge next year. Garrick or tom will have to step up.

Who is saying Cam to PF? There is no chance of that happening in my opinion.

He can do more than jump shoot. He can slash. Very comparable to Jerian.

But I feel like brey wanted him to be spot up this year, because Cameron is just straight up not strong enough yet to go inside with the big guys.

Let cam bulk up some and he'll become a more all around kinda guy.

You don't need to be big and strong to slash. Atkins did it all year and stopped short of the bigs to make short shots. Furthermore, he got beat consistently off the dribble. He's a typically slow Brey jump shooter. Torres is even slower.

They can score points and get some rebounds but their defense isn't good. I don't have high praise for Knight but after see the last couple games of Grant i have a new least favorite person on the team.

By small people mean Biedschied is skinny as a rail. Atkins is muscular. Furthermore in HS he was not asked to play D. He's learning now. He and Auguste have crazy upside.

FYI.

I'm tired of hearing people (not accusing you guys, per se) talk about ND basketball...

90% of these people don't watch more than the Big East / NCAA tourny games...

I follow ND Basketball first, football comes second.

I'd take a NCAA basketball win over football any day.

So, if you happen to one of these people, please, back the **** off Brey. And, come back when you know what the heck you're talking about.

Yeah I might get torn apart for this, but I don't understand how people can be an ND football fan but not an ND basketball fan. Yet there are so many of them. If you truly only like ND football, I feel like you don't actually support the university as a whole, you just bandwagon on to the super famous team. I only consider someone a true fan of Notre Dame if they support all its sports teams. Kinda makes me sad how few people care about basketball.

Seriously what gives u the right to tell ppl what to think and if they can post? Congrats u watch more basketball than 90% of this board, doesn't make u right about everything.

I watch 95% of the ND mens basketball games. There are a select few that I cannot watch on TV. I get the South Bend local tv stations where I live so I have that luxury. This type of play Brey has them do in the regular season works. Slow down the tempo, get a good look and hit the shot. In tourney time, ND consistently doesn't have the athleticism or the right tempo to match the intensity that is the NCAA tournament. I have to blame that on Brey. He recruits these types of kids. Cooley, Sherman ( I know, a transfer, not a recruit), and Knight can't cover a athletic big man. Atkins seems to be a point guard never looking for his shot all of a sudden. Grant is either hot or cold and Connaughton only had 3 shot attempts. And how about a timeout by Brey during that stretch of 5 straight turnovers?

I was thinking of this line-up next year:

PG-Atkins
SG-Connaughton/Jackson(PG)
SG-Grant
"PF"-Beidsheid
C-August

6th man- Sherman has to step in and be big time.

You can use Beidsheid as a mis-match on the perimeter.

Connaughton has too prove he can bring it every night. Otherwise Jackson starts over him and you can have 2 true ball handlers on the court at one time. Have Grant/Connaughton come off some screens ( God forbid there would actually be some movement on offense.) The key for next year and the years to come is to make sure Jackson develops into a (college) point guard.

“@JayBilas: Among the teams overseeded according to ESPN's BPI: Butler, Kansas State, Georgetown, Wisconsin, UNLV, Notre Dame, Oklahoma.”

Apparently we were over seeded...

Bilas is an idiot. No one would seed by BPI because that's a formula that doesn't factor in results. The Tournament is picked by who won and who lost, not by who played consistently well.

I'm all ND but growing up and living in Indiana, I see a ton of ND football/IU basketball fans, including many IU students/alums. Not everyone is a fan of ND football and a diehard fan of the university like those of us here and not everyone follows college sports as religiously as we do.

I know it won't happen, but with howland out at ucla who would be in favor of bringing him in instead of brey?

I looked into that the other day and it looks like he hasn't done anything remarkable outside of when he had Love and Westbrook, no?
