Quarterbacks and the passes they throw - Football Study Hall

An interesting read on comparing college QB's and what would happen if each threw each others' throws. Essentially, they look at the frequency with which each QB threw balls in 5-yard increments. Then they look at the completion percentage based on the 5-yard increments, and whether they increase as they throw more yardage or less yardage. Finally, they look at what would happen if all the quarterbacks threw the same percentage of passes to different lengths, and chart the data.

Interestingly enough, EG is incredibly efficient on throws between 20-24 yards, and pretty efficient on 10-15 yards. Contrast that with his throws from behind the line of scrimmage and inside 5 yards, and even those inside 10 yards (not so good). And also of note is that he has a higher percentage of throws than most in the 15-20 yard range.

Not to be a dick, but the sample sizes on this are atrocious. They only charted 5 notre dame games while they charted 12 alabama games. Teddy Bridgewater is first but they only looked at two of his games. This means very little unfortunately.

They gave the disclaimer at the top. Charting over 30 throws, I believe, scientifically gives it credence. But I do agree with you that they didn't get a big enough sample size. I guess Stats LLC has a better/similar one.
