A few comments from Presser

Weis talked about each new commit in detail, and it was very apparent how close a bond he has already established with each kid.
Emphasized the importance of recruiting year round, being aggressive, getting to kids early, being honest, never going back on your word, and never believing that kids will just come because it's Notre Dame - you have to earn it.

Emphasized how well the early commits did a great job recruiting other kids. {Sam Young said observing the chemistry amongst ND recruits, at the All-America game, was the decisive factor}. Emphasized that current ND players did a great job, just being themselves, during visits. Made point that ND staff doesn't tell ND players what to say or not say to prospective recruits.

Stated the biggest priorities were stacking the offensive line and secondary. Stated recruiting rankings mean nothing to him. All that matters is whether he thinks the kid can play.

Paddy Mullen will be a DT.

Talked briefly about Fiesta Bowl. Said OSU deserved to win game. Said ND did things in game that "we just don't do" (e.g.,dropped passes), saying he has to find a better way to prepare team over six week lull from late NOV - early JAN.

Young didn't decide until he saw the chemistry of the commits at the AAA game? Wow, I thought he was a lock way before that.

He was never as much of a lock as people thought he was.

I think he was a very strong lean, but seeing all those guys together down in San Antonio must have really clinched it for him.

Just goes to show that until they fax their LOI to ND, all the speculation and "Well I heard" means absolutely nothing.

Yeah, but for the most part there were no surprises this year. ND didn't really lose anyone. I think Gerald McCoy might have been the biggest disappointment because things looked so good for so long.

I'm still wondering what happened there.

McCoy was the only player that I wanted, that we didn't get. I too would like to know what happened because I thought that kid was going to be a virtual lock to come to ND by mid December then all of the sudden he just dropped out, kinda strange if you ask me.

McCoy and Maurice Evans would have been monsters on the D line.

ND never really pushed for Evans. They just offered him and that was it. He never visited.
