Change of heart for Carter?
There is plenty of speculation swirling around Brent Carter, a four-star running back from Pottstown, Pa., who committed to Virginia last week. Now it appears he may be staying closer to home and playing for Penn State. He was supposed to announce his final decision yesterday, but that was delayed and it was thought he would not make an announcement until Wednesday afternoon.
But this morning the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Carter has indeed swicthed his commitment to Penn State. "He visited Virginia and it was kind of like, 'Bang, bang, bang, I'm going to Virginia,' " Pottsgrove coach Rick Pennypacker told the Post-Gazette. "But Penn State was really No. 1 with him all along."

7:57 p.m. Four-star Eugene makes big switch
Four-star prospect Jai Eugene of Destrehan, La., stunned folks in the state when he announced earlier this month that he was going to sign with the University of Michigan. But as signing day approached, Eugene wavered.

"At Auburn I have a great opportunity to come in and play and develop myself," Hawthorne at his press conference. Syracuse (N.Y.) Christian Brothers defensive end McKenzie Mathews stayed in his hometown last weekend for his final official visit to Syracuse. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder has taken all five of his official visits and is expected to choose between 'Cuse, Pitt, Michigan, Ohio State and Boston College tonight or tomorrow. "I think it is very wide open between all the schools he visited," Christian Brothers head coach Joe Casamento said. "I haven't been able to talk to him since his visit to Syracuse, so I don't really know how that one went. I do know that he wanted to give everybody at least a day after his final official visit before deciding."

Mobile (Ala.) Davidson wide receiver London Crawford, a three-star prospect who had been committed to LSU since October, has apparently changed his mind and is now set to sign with Arkansas. Crawford (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) quietly took an official visit to Arkansas on Jan. 20 and was reported to be leaning towards the Razorbacks after the visit.

Five-star defensive tackle Gerald McCoy still hasn't decided where he will be playing college football, but he doesn't seem to be too worried about it. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that all of his options can offer a pretty attractive package. After being pursued by most of the nation's top programs, McCoy will choose between Southern Cal and Oklahoma.
"I'm undecided at this point, but we're getting pretty close to making a decision," the 6-foot-4, 300-pound McCoy said. "I've already had a meeting with my family, so now it's just a matter of me picking the school that fits me best. I'm not worried about it or stressing out though." Three-star athlete James Poe has not spoken to the media much since committing to Louisville back in November, but that doesn't mean other schools stopped their pursuit of the 6-foot-3, 219-pounder from Freedom High in Orlando, Fla. But despite the recent efforts of Arizona and South Florida, Poe is still committed to being a Cardinal.
Poe rushed for 1,501 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior, but because of his size and athletic ability, some have argued about what position he might play in college. Louisville, however, likes big backs and sees him as a running back at the moment. Click here for more on Poe and Louisville recruiting from CardinalSports.com.

"He's always been a Florida State fan," Watson's father Watson told Warchant.com. "It was his dream to go to Florida State." Watson is the 22nd player to commit to Florida State, and the Seminoles currently rank seventh in the Rivals.com Team Recruiting Rankings.

Four-star offensive lineman Daron Rose went on his final official visit over the weekend and came away very impressed with Florida State. Still, Rose was not quite ready to make a commitment as South Carolina and Michigan are still in the mix for the No. 2 offensive tackle in the nation.
Rose will make his announcement on signing day at his high school in Tampa, Fla. South Carolina is looking to make a late push and is currently ranked 32nd in the Rivals.com Team Recruiting Rankings. Michigan (12th) could move into the top 10 if Rose were to come on board, while Florida State (7th) is making its usual late run at the top five.
9:41 a.m. Michigan back in mix for Peters
Corey Peters, a four-star defensive tackle from Louisville, Ky., listed Kentucky, Auburn and Ohio State as his leaders after a visit last weekend to Columbus, but that didn't stop him from taking one final visit to Ann Arbor, Mich., over the weekend to get a final look at the Wolverines.

While Warren didn't rate the visit as highly as his FSU official a week earlier, the Vols gave him something to think about.
"I'm still an FSU commitment," Warren said Sunday. "We are going to meet [Sunday night], me and the family, and sit down and talk about some things. We are going to lay it all out ... because I have to be 100 percent sure about what I'm doing by [Monday]." Warren will announce his final decision this evening. A couple of two-star quarterback prospects from Texas are both set to sign with the schools of their choice, but it took some late changes to make it happen. Better late than never for Zack Eskridge and Steven Headley.
Eskridge had been committed to Wyoming, but he spent the weekend checking out TCU. Meanwhile, Headley went to Wyoming for an official visit, even though the Cowboys didn't have an offer for him. But Eskridge liked what he saw in Fort Worth enough to commit to the Horned Frogs, opening the door for the Cowboys to offer Headly, who jumped at it. 12:19 a.m. Syracuse pulls in big-time receiver
Syracuse added a huge piece to its 2006 class Sunday when four-star wide receiver Andrey Baskin picked the Orange over Tennessee. The Camden, N.J., prospect, who also had offers from N.C. State and Ohio State, is the No. 6 player in the Garden State and the No. 32 receiver in the nation.
Baskin, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 192 pounds, is the second four-star prospect on a Syracuse commit list that also boasts six 3-star prospects and has moved into the top 50 nationally.
