Penn State may pass us, they just got Devlin, and they still have a few guys who may commit.

That old fart can still recruit

We finished this season in the top ten rankings. That's with years of finishing 25th or worse in recruiting. If we finished top 5 in recruiting for the next few years, we all but assured ourselves a BCS game every season.

Either that or his staff can.

they've just shot up to #5.

Best defensive line class out there. Awesome ends and a nice harvest of today's secret words: defensive tackles.

Penn State, the Lazarus of college football.

Texas Tech has 32 verbals? damn

I think close to ten of these guys might be JUCO players that are enrolled this month.

But yeah, I noticed that number. Pretty high.

By the looks of it, ND has a solid recruiting class. There are, however, some gaps. The offense is fine now, but the defense needs help. In that regard, I think Weis could have done more. He has recruited twice as many offensive players than defensive players. Even on offense, the one weakness I think ND has, speed/toughness at the WR position, was not addressed. It might turn out that the WR recruits might turn out to be good, but every single recruit has a flaw. In other words, I don't think Weis has addressed NEED. While the RB position will have depth (you can never have enough RBs), the OL will be replenished, the TE position filled following a departure and the secondary imporved (somewhat), other positions of need, like the defensive front, WR position and LB corp have not really improved. Look forward to prevent defensives and offensive shootouts next year.

I really like the additions of Smith and Richardson at LB.
If Jackson keeps his head on straight and doesn't jump to the NFL before he is ready he should be great @ ND.

Weis knows he will always be able to get the offensive recruits. His primary focus next year will be Defense.

You're all over the place here. You make some valid points but then you're off, then on, then off again.

As far as twice as many offensive players as defense, I agree with you there. Problem is, they needed 2 QB, 6 OL and probably 3 WR. They ended with the first two and picked up four WR instead of 3. Saying speed and toughness was not addressed at WR is inaccurate. The idiot staff before this one, which beat scUM 2 of 3 times in their brief tenure, didn't feel the need to take recruiting classes with more than 15 players in them. They had to stock the offense and with only 25 spots available, yes this class was offensive heavy. But some of these kids play BOTH WAYS on defense as well.

Every recruit has flaws? You're preaching to the choir on this board.

I have to agree with you about the defensive line. That's pretty much a given. Two DE who are projects and not a DT to be found. These positions are already being attacked for next year. For now, it is the weak spot of the team as far as depth goes. Without quetion.

A "somewhat" improved secondary? Darrin Walls and Raeshon McNeil. Replace somewhat with VASTLY. Add in three safeties, this is one of if not THE best defensive back haul in America.

At linebacker, well, while I wish they would have taken 3....there are only so many spots to go around. You probably haven't seen Morrice Richardson and Toryan Smith play, but what you probably did see was the 3 stars by Smith's name therefore assuming he's not that good, so I'll just leave this alone.

"Look forward to prevent defenses and offensive shootouts next year."

Like a typical scUM fan, you end with a dumbass remark than destroys any legit comment you made previously.

There were some good points in here, caked with typical asshole scUM sarcasm.

And you look forward to your continued futility against the Irish.

jigg's post was spot on. The skunkbears were pretty high on one of our "flawed" WR's. I believe you were after one of our linebackers as well.

The only holes in this class are at DT.

Oh, I figured this out.

They're all chesty because they got Steve Schilling. He was either going to scUM or the Poodle's Kennel.

Too bad death wasn't an option.

VictorsValiant trying to sound legit? That's comical. He was all over the place. The only need that was not addressed is the Defensive Line. We needed at least one stud tackle and a couple of guys who could play spot minutes. At the least, we needed 2-3 linemen that could help in the next couple of years. We didn't get that. We got two top 100 cornerbacks and we "somewhat" improved the secondary? If you haven't seen recruits play, how can you say they're not that good? After the Army AA game, teams were drooling all over McNeil who's probably one of the best pure corners coming out. Michigan will continue to get their great recruiting classes and then they will continue to lose to Notre Dame. You couldn't even consistently beat us during the Davieham years. Truth of the matter is that you had better teams all the years that Davie and Willingham walked the sidelines. Do me a favor.....if you guys are going to continue to get great recruits, teach them how to stop underachieving. Oh wait a minute, sit your coach down and teach him how to achieve expected results.

Actually, he had dropped USC awhile ago. It was between UM, Cal and Ty's vicious animals. Go figure. You'd think a guy that talented would want to win a title some day.

Poodle is scrambling. I guess he's practically having phone sex with Percy Harvin. They got a three star WR from Long Beach Poly yesterday, which for SC is a major step back. They only offer four and five star Rivals 100 guys.

Hazelton is looking hard at Penn State last minute. Stefon Johnson decides today and he's considering UGA after being a strong SC lean. He'll end up at SC anyway, but anything can happen....

"And with the bronze in Big Ten Recruiting, the Michigan Wolverines."

Michigan has lost to ND lately, but the world doesn't revolve around ND. ND has not had a winning record for two consective years since 1997-1998. Last five years, they are 34-26 while Michigan is 44-18.

McNeil is good, but Eugene is better. We don't hope for intangibles, we get the very best recievers. Shilling was good, but so is LB Graham (some say he's the #1 overall recruit this year), OL Boren, DT Slocum etc... Just wait until competant coordinators are brought in to coach these athletes. Until then, talk is cheap. We all heard the boundless hopes of the ND faithful after Davie and Willingham. It's same old same old until ND actually manages to have a winning record in two consecutive seasons. I know it's tough.

The very best receivers? You make me laugh. Richard Jackson, Robby Parris and George West don't have Rivals licking their asses so you assume "hope for intangibles." Is Mike Farrell your brother or something?

Graham is awesome, but how (who is saying this?) can he be the number one rated recruit when he's probably second or third at his own position. Ever hear of Sergio Kindle? Hands down best LB in America. The top player in America is Percy Harvin.

Head to head, ND vs. scUM, four out of the last six for ND. In the last 44 wins over the last five years, how many of those wins were against MAC schools?

Talk is cheap until you finally hire some competent coordinators? GREAT ARGUMENT!!! This is really good stuff. Fresh.

Time to ban this @sshole. This is Oregon all over again.

Don't ban him. He's kind of funny.

McNeil is good, but Eugene is better

That remains to be seen. No corner played better in San Antonio than McNeil. Long term, we'll see.

We don't hope for intangibles, we get the very best recievers.

Intangibles hell, Parris can play and apparently scUM thinks so as well. He was offered a scholarship on the spot. And in case you didn't notice, ND receivers weren't chopped liver. A couple guys who were not on the radar last year were a concensus All American and the other will be at worst a second rounder in April, that is if he doesn't work his way into round one. Again, these two were afterthoughts coming into 05. I think Charlie will do just fine with our WR's.

so is LB Graham (some say he's the #1 overall recruit this year
Who are these "some?" Not any lists I've seen. "Some" said Michigan would crush ND in Ann Arbor last year.

Just wait until competant coordinators are brought in to coach these athletes
Well, we're still waiting, aren't we? Nice excuse, by the way. The buck stops with the head guy.

We all heard the boundless hopes of the ND faithful after Davie and Willingham.
Not like this, you didn't. Very few liked Davie. Most saw him as a guy who stabbed Lou in the back. Most also saw Ty as a slightly over .500 coach but were happy to get the O'leary fiasco behind us. Sure, we enjoyed starting 10-0, but if you look at the comments after the hire and the late season free-fall, you'd know that mantra is false. Ty was never loved.

It's same old same old until ND actually manages to have a winning record in two consecutive seasons. I know it's tough.
Well, if we're going to pick and choose the criteria for comparing ND and UM, I pick to use head to head.

We've got our coaches-HC and assistants. And now we're finally going to get some comparable talent. Enjoy your guaranteed two losses a year plus your other two LLLLLoyd special deliveries.

What Victors Valiant is probably so upset about is that Ohio State, Iowa and Wisconsin kids all play harder than Michigan kids do. Don't have as much talent, but they go out and bust people's teeth out and play hard with what they have.

I blame the staff for this. Year in and year out, there is way too much talent up there for them to perform the way they do.

See you September 16th.

Penn State's making a strong late push. They'll have a great class. Coupled with last year's class, they should have another strong team in a couple years.

LSU has moved into 5th. ND now 6th on Rivals.

They're going to end up out of the top ten by the end of the day tomorrow. Watch it happen.

Rivals downgraded so many ND recruits and everyone else is signing four and five star guys.

Needs were addressed and these players are better than these people think. I'm cool with this, but I'm sure haters will take note of how ND supposedly "slipped."

Lemming has ND second. Funny.
