They currently have commitments from 11 of Scout's top 100 rated players. No other school has more than 7 (Florida). It all adds up to bad news for those who predicted (or wishfully thought) that the Rose Bowl defeat and eventual departures of Leinhart, Bush, White and others would slow the momentum of the USC program.

The top programs in the recruiting wars generally average about 3.7 Stars per player. USC is at 4.4 this year. That is domination. Apparently not many of these recruits know Norm Chow, Orgeron, et al left.

Regardless of the accuracy of the star rating of player 1 versus player 2 or 3, if most of your recruits are coming from the top tier if a couple don't develop as projected you're still at the top of the pile.

As long as Carroll wins 10 games and the PAC10 this will continue.

And count on this happening for a long time.

UCLA is making strides, Stoops is picking things up at Arizona. Aside from that, who else is there? They're going to roll for years on end.

I still think there will be a falloff from losing as many guys as they are on offense, but by the time they play ND we'd better hope ND has gotten better than the way they finished this year. It won't be a 31 point blowout, but it could be a major challenge.

We're going to have to climb to their level and not rely on them breaking down. Which is how it should be, really.

Funny how after the Konrad Reuland commit, there were many talking about the demise of USC. And that Petey was going to the NFL.

Neither of which is going to happen.

Scooper is so right that we need to (and we will) rise to that level - and maybe above it. And this is the way it is supposed to be. And that is a hell of alot better than having the college world dominated by trash like Miami, Oregon State, Va Tech etc.

They've only taken 16 players. Very good ones, but they've been beaten for some guys.

SC has really come on strong in the last month. Probably set to come on stronger before all is said and done.

Weis took a lot of guys early on blind faith, most of whom were three star athletes. The interest of Mitch Mustain, to me, speaks volumes now that there have been some results.

Weis is going to snag the #1 class in 2007. I believe it. If you're a QB or WR you're going to want to play for ND. If you're a d lineman or linebacker, you can plan on being in the mix early.

Should be interesting going head to head with SC now.

Don't forget Washington! I mean, seriously, that's a program on the rise, they should be competing w/ USC for the Rose Bowl any decade now....

hehe, sorry, I couldn't help myself....

14 verbals right now. Sad. Nothing has changed.

Has a four star QB, WR and DT. Not much else.

Not so fast my friend!!! Whadda you mean nothing has changed??? With a week in Hawaii, Ty-ger's HANDICAP has changed!!!! Maybe he's trying to get better, so he can get on the Senior...sorry, I mean Champions Tour...

If I was a UDrub fan/AD, I'd be going ballistic about now....your most important recruiting class in years is about finished and your head coach is out in a golfing/"coaching" junket to HI?????

Actually, Ty is about to land one of the few OT's that is thought to rival Young. Schilling eliminated USC this week and appears to be favoring the Huskies. I have no idea why.

Yeah, that's the current scuttlebutt. I hope he's good. He may be an offensive line of one. Much like the Irish would have been playing in two years.

Depending on who goes where, SC could be in danger of having a fair to mid level class in terms of numbers.

Texas, Florida and ND are really pushing them hard on a national level.

These were my comments after the Reuland announcement and I stand by them today. But you're right, they aren't faltering by any means. If you're predicting SC's demise, you're in for a disappointment. If anyone is demising, it's the scUM Skunkbears.

I don't know how many spots they have available, but I can't see them taking more than 20 by the time Signing Day comes. I don't see them landing everyone that is still pending. McCoy is OU and Andre Smith is probably staying in the South. Hazelton might bolt for Penn State now.

Rivals ranks them #2 with 16 verbals, but how is that a well rounded class compared to Florida, Texas, UGA and ND? They're going to need a lot of good news in the next week and could end up getting it. I still think they get four or five more guys tops.

Four or Five more recruits - landed on Feb 1 - will make a big splash with the media. For right or wrong, it will dwarf some of the early commits that ND has. And there will be no final day big impact commit for ND so the final momentum - IN THE MEDIA's EYES - will be what a great job Pete did.

I just hope/pray that we don't lose anyone on Feb 1 bc that will be front page SI once again.

Ty getting a five star recruit?

Ty getting a five star recruit?

Schilling is considering WA? Wow!

As for making a splash come signing day. You never know, Charlie does have one more offer left.

The media can say whatever they want about Pete. The fact is, he's probably got and will be getting more talent than he's had there when they were winning the last two years. Let's really see what happens now.

I doubt we lose anyone. The integrity that Charlie has displayed throughout the season and during recruiting will assure us that we won't lose anyone. Because the class was full so early, I'm sure the coaches had plenty of time to get each recruits assurance that they would live up to their commitment.

Agreed 100%.

But those early guys, 3-star or whatever, had faith before Weis had even called his first play.

I remember Weis saying how everyone had the jump on him in recruiting because he came in late and how it will come down to X and O's. This is his first true full class in my mind. 2007 will be a special class, perhaps better than this one and ranked #1 over all.

I just hope it includes several defensive linemen and linebackers.

Comments for Vidal Hazelton's dad Dexter Hazelton:

"I look at this process like a business because that's what it really is," Dexter said. "USC is all business. I call Pete Carroll a shark because that's how he is. It's not a bad thing because in the NFL and in business you deal with sharks and sharks have that killer instinct you need. Vidal is a shark himself. Penn State is more about recruiting the family and I know Joe Paterno would take care of Vidal after football by helping him get a job or whatever. I don't get that feel from USC.

Dexter Hazelton's comments do not shock me, not only about USC but about Penn State and Joe Paterno.

More parents need to realize this. USC doesn't offer much for life after or without football. Carroll uses his players as means to an end.

What are you talking about. USC has so much to offer for a football alumnus:
  • Not stop meetings with Johnny Cochran (rest his soul) and Alan Dershowitz
  • 24 x 7 CNN COverage
  • White Broncos
Come on Jiggs, this is important stuff that the Trojans have to sell.

Yeah, I hear ya.

What's scary is that they've done awesome this year and this class isn't as good as it could have been because they didn't get everyone they wanted.

But they're awful stacked up right now and people will see that down the road in the up coming years.
