Clausen joins UT staff

Randy Moore InsideTennessee.com Jan 14, 2006

Tennessee's chances of someday landing celebrated prep quarterback Jimmy Clausen just got a little boost.

Rick Clausen, Jimmy's older brother and Tennessee's starting quarterback for most of 2005, has agreed to serve as a graduate assistant with the Vols in 2006.

Head coach Phillip Fulmer announced that Rick Clausen will fill the GA spot held the past two seasons by former Vol tailback Jay Graham.
"I think he'll be great in the transition from what we've done in the past to where we're headed," Fulmer said of Clausen. "He's an eager guy to learn and he'll be a coach someday."
Should Rick Clausen elect to serve two years as a grad assistant, he might get a chance to coach his little brother in 2007.

So he'll be there for one year as a GA and then be gone most likely.

Charlie Weis has 9 years left at ND. Don't sweat it folks.

Wow, talk about a bunch of sleaze-bags.

Hard to draw this conclusion considering he went to UT and was a pretty good QB. And it was done for the 2006 season (year before Jimmy comes out).

Compare that with Arkansas hiring Mustains high school coach immediately after he opens up his recruiting.

Oklahoma hires McCoy

Oklahoma hires McCoy

Oklahoma Tribune

Tribune reports that Gerald McCoy's father has been hired by Bob Stoops to be official "Body Oil Rubber" for son Gerald when he come to Oklahoma. No word if Mama McCoy will join the staff as an assistant.

On another note, earlier reports of a scholarship being revoked to an unnamed QB recruit at Notre Dame was false. It was Sam Young after he held up a Kmart over the weekend in Miami while being angry that there were no "Play Like a Champion" towels available in the bathwares department. More to follow...

Rick has said he wants to be a coach in football, certainly doesn't hurt their chances with Jimmy, but its not like they hired Rick to be the QB coach or the OC, he'll only be a GA...

I'd love to land Clausen, but its not the end of the world if we don't get him, I have a feeling the QB position will be the least of our problems while Weis is here.

When is the last time a little brother listened to what his big brother had to say.

Queens, I thought the same thing on Friday.

Now, having done some reading up on Clausen this past weekend, it appears many of the top recruits (Tyler, Benn) could follow Clausen to wherever he goes to school.

Just in looking at video of him more, he is probably better than all of this year's crop. He was held back a year, so he is the same age as these guys. Plus, I believe he plans on being an EE which would allow him to come in for spring, learn the offense, get reps and possibly be in the hunt for Quinn's vacated spot.

I'm not 100% sold on the hype, but I'm buying a few shares on this guy.

If he is an EE candidate for 2007, we need to hold a scholarship open this year, don't we? Or can an EE count against 2007?

An EE would count against '07 unless there is a slot available due to an unused scholarship or attrition.

Don't get me wrong I want Jimmy Clausen more than anyone, because I think he will win a national champion. But if he goes to Tennesse for his brother being a GA. Well then best of luck to him. Becuase I am sure Rick is a better QB coach than Weis is.

I don't blame you for not believing the hype, Lord knows guys don't always live up to expectations. But I'm really sold on this kid. Weis will certainly have great success with another QB, but I want this guy more than any other recruit we've seen in years. I believe he's been coined the Lebron James of high school football. Maybe he can be the Carmello Anthony of college football instead and lead us to a national title, just like Melo did!

Sarcasm, right?
