With his senior season complete George West has now turned his attention to getting healthy and preparing himself to make the jump from high school to college football.
"Things are going pretty good," he said. "I'm just lifting weights and getting my schoolwork done. I'm not playing basketball this year; I might just power lift. It's all coming back to me now. I tweaked my shoulder during the season and I'm just getting back into it, going hard again."
In September, West, a 5-foot-8, 172-pound athlete from Oklahoma City, Okla., made his verbal commitment to Notre Dame and last week he received an in-home visit from offensive coordinator Mike Haywood.
"Coach Haywood was here on Wednesday," West said. "We talked about everything going on and the early enrollment issue. It was a nice visit. My parents have always gotten along with him and that's why they were OK with me going so far away."
Early enrollment has been an issue that West has been contemplating ever since the Irish coaching staff presented the idea. West realizes its benefits but he has some reservations and hopes he can come to a decision soon.
"It's kind of still in my mind but no decision has been made," he said. "They approved me but some decisions have to be made. It's kind of hard to leave Oklahoma City to go up there, but it could be a good thing tough."
West is also doing his part to help recruit his friends to Notre Dame.
"I talk to Gerald (McCoy) all the time," he said. "I put in my two cents and do what I can. I know he liked his visit and all. His parents and him wrote down all the likes and dislikes of each school and they'll look at it."
