I know I've argued on here that size isn't everything, but it's nice to have Jackson and Parris coming in.

This wide receiver class with West and Gallup included is a good one.

“When it comes down to it, Coach Weis, education opportunities, the rich tradition and the chance to play for a national title all played major roles in my decision,” said Jackson. “Plus the fact that they will throw the ball forty times a game helped also.”

I doubt this will always be the case, the 40 throws per game thing. I hope he doesn't come to Notre Dame and get disgruntled if that doesn't happen.

You're probably right. And I really hope you are. I'd hate to have to rely on these passing numbers every year. However, the "system" is proven capable in the passing game and there will always be chances for WR's to showcase their abilities.

Well, if you ask Weis, I'd bet he would say we've thrown the ball too much as he really prefers a 50/50 mix. I just hope as we balance out, we keep all of these blue chips happy.

Hopefully they buy into the system.

we'll pass 40 times per game as long as we have good enough talent at receiver and quarterback - both of which seem to be looking pretty good.

You're right. Balance is the key. Look what Charlie did last year when he finally got his workhorse RB in Dillon. He, not the passing game, became the focus of that offense. But the receivers and Tom Brady still got their numbers.

This guy appears to be the total package. Reports say he is a great downfield blocker and loves the contact. This offense looks awesome. Now if we could just shore up the D a little.......

Yes, he is a tenacious downfield blocker...take a look at his highlight video in the first Richard Jackson post.

Re: the 50/50 mix - I hadn't come across this yet. I'm pretty sure Weis has been quoted as saying he'll do whatever it takes to win each game, whether that means 500yds passing/50 yds rushing one game and then 300yds rushing/100 yds passing the next. BYU was a perfect example - pass, pass, pass; and when Louis Johnson of NBC asked Weis about the lack of a run game at half he looked at LJ like he was stupid (since we were dominating on the field & on the scoreboard...who cares about the run at that point!?!).

While the idea of a 50/50 balance seems "right", since it means the defense cannot focus on just one strength, Charlie is such an outstanding game planner & play-caller that I expect we're always going to be strong in both the passing game and the running game and I think we'll see him focus on abusing other teams weaknesses rather than play to avoiding our weaknesses (b/c with this staff I don't think there will be many, if any, significant weaknesses).

:)

Good point, Clancy. It amuses me that we continue to see teams bringing guys up and blitzing a lot.

Richard should give Big Sam Young a call and let him know if he ever needs a ride home to Florida from South Bend he now has one.

yeah, this team looks like the Patriots. You really can't blitz or you'll get picked apart.
