I keep looking through this year's class, and if it all shapes up, could this end up being the greatest Irish recruiting class ever?

Discuss.

no it won't, but ask this again next year and you might be right. the best class to come into ND was the 1995 class, voted #1 by everybody. the '95 class was absolutly loaded with star power.

kory minor: 5-star, defensive player of the year, top player in california
jimmy friday: 5-star, second best LB in california, one of the best LBs around
john merandi: 5-star, best OL in california, best center in the country
mike rosental: 5-star, one of the best OL in the country
jerry wisne: 5-star, one of the best OL in the country
bobbie howard: 4-star, one of the best MLBs in the country
aurty denson: 4-star, one of the best RBs in the country, perhaps the best RB in florida
lamont bryant: 4-star, one of the best LB/DE in the country
jarious jackson: 4-star, one of the better option QBs in the country
mike gandy: 4-star, one of the better TEs in the country

im sure their are others i forgot but the '95 will be very hard to charlie wies to beat.

Incoming class? I think they rate with 1995 easily.

Retention? We'll see.

When all is said and done? This class will have what those guys do not: a National Title. At least one. Lord willing, two.

Once again we're back to the "star" ratings. On that basis 95 might be the best. But these classes cannot be evaluated coming in.

Like all classes, this one will lose some players. If it wins a NC it may be the best.

Finally, If ND can continue to win games at the current clip, Weis will have to shut the recruiting door in May. Like Jolson said 50 years ago, "you ain't seen nothing yet".

I'm not talking about stars... I'm simply making the statement off of the game footage I've seen on numerous players that are coming to South Bend.

If we can land either Gerald McCoy or Butch Lewis and Konrad Reuland then it definitly could be the greatest ND class ever.

What about the 1990 class?????

That class included combo of Jerome Bettis and Tom Carter III (two that left the class early for the NFL) was better then anyone from that '95 class. I believe the 1990 haul was the best haul in ND history.

Previous ND Recruiting Classes

Where can I find information on previous ND recruiting classes, i.e. players, rankings, what these recruits accomplished in their ND careers, who transferred etc.?

I was responding to Irishman's post listing the "star" rating of the 95 class. I have not seen the footage you are refering to but I still think they're too many "if's" to try to compare classes--time will tell.

I'll be redundant as hell. THIS CLASS HAS TO GET A COUPLE OF DL. The offense is secure-the defense is suspect.

With the spots left, ND is looking at Reuland and Carufel being very good.

The DT pool is McCoy, Lewis, Kates and Micah Johnson.

Sam Young looks promisiing as a lean as well.

Of those four guys, ND needs two of them. I'm hoping for a McCoy plus any one of the other three combo, but Butch Lewis is my preference.

The key question is how do you define 'greatest'. If you define it by the stats coming into ND, class of 2006 could get close. 95 was a great year for stats coming in.

If you define it by impact to the program based on the 4 to 5 years, 95 wasn't close to Top 5. And we will see on the class of 2006.
