I don't fear them, because we can stop the run. We can't stop the pass as good. So I fear other little teams like BYU more than a team like Navy.

The only thing that I am sure ND will pay attention to is the option. Here is a reminder - MSU ran the option to the right all afternoon on us. Also Purdue had 3 big option plays to the right - even though ND crushed Purdue, they had production with the option. Go Irish!!!

Notre Dame is second to Army on Navy's schedule as their biggest game. They always play hard and put up a good fight, no matter who they play. They had their chances under Davie and Ty, but not this time around.

I think ND will put up some major points in this game and the defense will play very well. Navy will play hard, but they'll be outmanned.

Navy runs a triple option which is hard to defense because you simply do not see it often. If the past is any indication Navy will look good for the first quarter until ND figures it out.

I look for NAVY to throw the ball more than they have in any game thus far. They know they can't compete on the ground.

Living in Annapolis I get a lot of verbage about how good NAVY is but They play a very weak schedule stuffed with teams who rarely have a winning record. The guy they fear most is Stovall. Their DB on that side is 5'9".

ND will throw the ball and win big but look for NAVY to be tough in the first half.

Our linebackers have to play disciplined football, especially stopping the inside dive play. The key to stopping the triple option is taking the fullback dive out of the equation. If that's there, so are the edge plays and play action, especially if our safeties come up too quickly.

Navy will play their hearts out for 60 minutes. It won't be a pushover. Rather, I am worried about people on the team and among the fans booking their tickets to Tempe too early.

Games against Navy weren't close under Lou; they won't be close under Weis either. This team is competently coached again.

This is an opponent where the safeties should be as close as they usually are.

True that Holtz owned Navy (closest margin was 15 points in 1988), but remember that Navy hasn't beaten us since Staubach was under center, and Kennedy was president. Sooner or later, the streak will end.

I don't think it happens this year, but I do think there is danger in looking ahead at all.

Navy is 5-3, though they lost to Stanford, Maryland and Rutgers, and beat lower tier teams like Kent, Rice, Duke, Tulane, and AFA.

They aren't in our league, we should win the game handily, but that doesn't mean we will win handily. I hope I'm wrong, and that the back-ups play the 4th quarter, but strange things can happen. Injuries (Navy loves to cut-block), turnovers, weather, etc. can level the playing field. I think it will be tight, but ND wins. I am perfectly happy to be proven wrong and have us blow them out.

Service academy games always make me nervous--likely a holdover from how AFA owned us during Faust's years.

AMEN!!!!!! My father kept saying the same thing during Daviham. He also said that I shouldn't get high on the "decade of dominance" against USC either, as they'll come back.

HOWEVER, I do feel a lot better w/ CDub and Co at the helm against Navy than w/ Boob and Ty-ger.

NAVY has never been beaten. They have lost numerous games but it's always some other reason rather than the other team.--mostly poor officiating. bad weather etc.

After they lost to Rutgers it was the "erronious review" that took away a fumble and an interception from them. They refused to acknowledge that Rutgers has a pretty good team. Their coach even said the "review" was wrong!

After they lose to ND it will be some excuse like "we shot ourselves in the foot". They will never admit that ND might just be a better team.

This game can't be too lopsided for me! RUN IT UP!!!!!!!!!

Those option plays were out of the shotgun. Its a huge difference between taht and the traditional triple option that navy runs. If you stop the fullback, its over. Just like last year, they shut down ekel and navy was finished. Landri and laws are going to have to plug up the middle. I know navy will play hard, but in the end ND has too many playmakers and i think it will be tough going at first but Nd wins big again. In replt to leppycole.

Navy will play us really tough, other than Army its their main game on the sched but I just dont think Navy's DLine has the pressure to get to Quinn and of course the Navy secondary cant contain the likes of Samardjiza, Stovall and Fasano. So the opening line of 23.5 sounds about right to me.

Actually that sounds a bit LOW to me. I seem to remember during Lou's tenure, the lines were routinely in the mid to high 30s.....

I don't fear Navy as football team but I respect everyone of those guys more than I can express in words. They didn't go to school with NFL aspirations and million dollar dreams. They went to the Naval Academy to serve and defend this country not to play a game.

Navy’s players graduate to aircraft carriers, submarines, fighter jets and Marine Infantry units; not office buildings or the NFL. We are slaves to tyranny were it not for them.

On the football they are average at best - ND could score 70 - off the field they are the best the world has ever seen.

I really wish that during the Davie/Willingham years Navy would have won a game or two. Those kind of memories go along way when your in a bad place doing a dirty job.

My prayers go out to them.

Guff, I think all of us feel the same way but we're talking about the Navy FOOTBALL team. I live 1 mile from the academy and have a lot of Navy friends and neighbors. I have nothing but respect for the midshipmen. ( my family sponsors them). But I can tell you they HATE ND almost as much as they HATE Army and that hate is palpable.

Irishenvy is a football site and we should keep it that way.

i got a bad feeling this game will be closer than it should. ND will win, but it won't be as handily as it should against a team as undersized as Navy. It always seems that when these two teams get together and the line is something ridiculous like ND -23.5 that's when Navy comes to play, but when its like last year and everyone thinks Navy might actually have a shot for once, that's when they mail it in and get creamed.

The Navy red zone offense is very efficient: 29 of 36, 81%. 23 TD, 6 FG.

The Navy red zone defense is not efficient: they yield points 78% of the time.

They are 5-3 with 3 point losses to Stanford and Maryland, plus a 10 point loss to Rutgers.

What does it all mean?

Take ND and the over.

Navy, Notre Dame sign contract to play through 2016
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The Navy-Notre Dame football series, the nation's longest intersectional college football rivalry, will continue through at least 2016, with the teams returning to Ireland to play in 2012.
The schools announced Thursday that they had signed a 10-year contract. The sites for Navy's home games haven't been determined except for in 2012, when the game will be played in Dublin. In 1996, a crowd of 38,651 in Dublin watched Notre Dame beat Navy 54-27. Notre Dame's home games will be played at Notre Dame Stadium.

The Irish have beaten the Midshipmen an NCAA-record 41 straight times.

"Whether we visit South Bend, or the game is played on the East Coast, it is of great interest to our collective national audience of Irish fans, Naval Academy alumni and the Navy family at large," Naval Academy director of athletics Chet Gladchuk. "Two institutions with similar values rekindling a lengthy and well-respected relationship make this game special."

I was born in Ireland, so I gotta make that 2012 trip. That would be a fantastic experience....

Navy allows 4 yards per punt return.

Zbikowski is getting about 20 yards per punt return, third in the nation.

Also an interesting matchup.
