"Because Willingham was far more impressive in the first two months of his initial season than Weis has been in his, and all Tyrone got was a pat on the back."

How was he impressive he won games by smoke and mirrors and got lucky, Weis's offense is on a whole different level then that of Willinghams and the level of play is up. This guy is racist against the only minority left in American the white american male. Stupid ESPN.

Don't let this stuff bother you, guys....

I've said this before and I'll say it again: there are people on ESPN with agendas of their own.

Whitlock carries the cross for Barry Bonds. In his eyes, Bonds is misunderstood and it is the media's fault Bonds is portrayed as he is.

As fun as 2002 was, I remember thinking to myself "This can't keep up like this. They have to score. This defense will break."

Low and behold.

Weis must now succeed in every aspect....on the field, in the classroom and recruiting....TEN FOLD to that of TW.

I know where I'm betting my money.

Charlie getting a contract extension and EARNING his extra dough and Ty getting fired have nothing to do with black and white (although this shit stain wants to make it an issue). The fact of the matter is that we are winning with Ty's boys. THAT IS IT!!!! C-Dub is a football genius.

This guy can eat a full bag of $hit. Just another jack off trying to stir the already spoiled stew. Nice Shitlock!!!!

God Bless Charlie!!!!

somebody should e-mail him at ballstate68@aol.com. To play the race card is really ridiculous. I'm an African-American and it's sad that schools who hire African-American coaches are pressured to keep them even when they are under-performing. Everybody looks at Ty's first year. Nobody looks at the last two years. When Ty was there all you heard was he started out 8-0 and since then ND is 11-15 or something like that. Now that he's gone, people forget the last two years and only want to focus on the first 8 games. To make things worse, they try to make valid points with no research. Willingham having Bob Davie's players argument works both ways. He might have been stuck with Carlyle Holiday, but he had a ferocious defense that was recruited by Bob Davie. The defense was one of the top defenses before he got there. That's how he got to 8-0. The offense was abyssmal under his tutelage and never really improved while he was there (5-7 & 6-6). Evidently, nobody wants to give Charlie credit for taking an offense that was sporadic at best and turning it into a scoring machine. Anyway, it's also sad when ND has to pay for other colleges in America who fail to hire qualified African-American coaches. So when they hire one and fire him before his contract is over, that's racist. No one takes in to account that the Irish, who are known for football, were on a steady decline since '96. It's unfortunate that he happened to be the first guy to get fired, but it had to happen no matter what color he was. What they should be writing about is that I can still count the number of African-American coaches on one hand.

DAMN!!!! I could not have said it better myself. Who is to say that down the road that ND would not hire a different African American coach. All this does is make the decision to hire an African American coach tougher. Who wants that label? ND, Racist?
What if C-Dub gets canned? Are we Anti-Chubby?

Nice take domerforlife. I couldn't agree more. And your comments weight more since you are African-Ameican. I think takes like that of Whitlock actually weaken the the stance of African-Americans and minorities in general when there are legitimate complaints about discrimination. I just don't care what they say since Charlie's success will wash out this conversation after a few years of success.

Thanks guys. Whatever I can do to make your days better. LOL!! That article was pure opinion and no facts. There are like maybe 4 or 5 African-American coaches in Div 1 football. Articles like this only make it worse. A school now has to think "if we hire this guy and he doesn't cut it, can we afford to fire him?" You know this is especially the case in the major conferences and other high profile schools. I think articles like these cause more harm than good.

This is the email i sent: You forget the way willingham lost his games. several 31 point losses to USC, 20+point losses to oregon st, N.C.st, florida st etc, etc. When Ty took over in his first year, he inherited a terrific defense that won several of the games in the "8-0" start for the irish. They beat purdue without scoring an offensive TD during that stretch. You say charlie has beat the teams he is supposed to. What about the 14-7 loss to a much less talanted boston college in Ty's first year, and losses to pitt and BC again last season just to name a few. Ty didnt win the games he was supposed to. Charlie is an offensive mastermind who's 2 losses are by a combined 7 points. No team will give USC a game like ND did this year. Locking up weis is the smart thing to do here. He is clearly a better coach than willingham will ever be. Ask any real ND fan and they'll tell you the same thing.

I could care less what ESPN writers say. They are the bandwagon network. Every year I keep a list of who they say will play for the national title and email it back to them at the end of the season. I usually point out corso's record for picks throuout the year, and now I will also send Dork Mays. The racial thing is old and it is the only way Jason W. can keep his job. What else would he write about? Did he mention the super bowl contrast between ty and CW. Oh yeah only in America can we pick an choose what to report. He is just your typical ignorant individual.

i read on another board that this is whitlocks 4th or 5th column on race and sports. he has brought the race card out in all of them, and he just hurts sports more than he knows. he acts like he is on a freakin crusade, but jesus christ, do some research before you call Ty Willingham the Messiah! I HATE TY WILLINGHAM. I hate him for having to watch the last 3 years of shitty calls, bad adjustments and just plain suckiness. Hate may be a strong word, but every time someone says his name I get so pissed off, like someone just pissed on my head or something. Washington has 1 win. Thats it. And I dont want to hear about talent being the factor because if Ty is truly a great coach, say good enough to go 8-0 when he goes to another program in his first year, then he SHOULD have more than 1 win this year. Kent Baer is getting schooled as usual on gameday. Look at the scores of some of the thrashings so far this year:

Cal-56
Huskies-17

ND-36
Huskies-17

Oregon-45
Huskies-21

USC-51
Huskies-24

Arizona St.-44
Huskies-20

Absolute blowouts. I have no idea how anyone can possibly think that Weis doesnt deserve an extension. Was is so superior to Ty in every coaching facet that the only thing that a black sports writer has left to fall on is the race card. ESPN should be ashamed for letting a piece of trash like this write for them.

Perhaps the media attention will force Washington to give Ty a 10 year, 40 million dollar extension. Only problem is, they already want him gone. For a good time, check out the Husky boards for some good ole' fashioned schadenfreude.

The media never would have thought Weis would be as successful as he's been, but it was always a possibility; however, I have to believe they're irritated by how miserable Willingham is at Washington. Hell, even I didn't think he would be worse than Gilbertson.

There is a little spot where you can post a response to Whitlock's nonsense. This is what I posted.

Don't let facts get in the way of you playing the race card. This isn't about race, it's about economics. Ty wasn't given an extension after his 8-0 start because there was no demand or potential demand for his service at the NFL level.

Weis got the extension because Green Bay, Houston, Minnesota, and St. Louis will all be looking for new head coaches this December. And every one of them would be looking Weis' way. The "NFL question" would pop up every December. Notre Dame didn't want their head coach to be the subject of NFL rumors every year. This ends that. Now he can win National Championship without having to deal with NFL rumors.

Best piece I have seen written by someone in a long time, every word of it true, you should do your own weekly column. Two claps domerforlife! :)

hehe, good line on the anti-chubby. If they are, there goes my chances of one day being the head coach of Notre Dame:) lol.

As far as the first part goes, I'll even throw out a name. Michael Haywood, the damn offensive coordinator is black!!! A few years under Charlie's instruction, maybe he goes out and takes a job as a head coach somewhere else in a few years, and 10 years or so from now he might be ready to come home and be the next head football coach of Notre Dame! If nothing else, his hiring gives him a HUGE leaping point to get a head coaching job somewhere else in a few years.

Stuff like that is what makes me really not wanna hear about how "racist" ND is...

Ty sucked and his stuff sucked. I will give Ty one thing, I think he would make a good golf coach.

Mike North was talking about this on Chicago 670 AM this morning. He was BLASTING Whitlock's article and even went so far as to call him an "irresponsible" writer for this piece.

Racism is a very serious thing to accuse of another person/institution/etc. TW did not have his contract honored because of Davie's failure. Plain and simple. They were not going to make the same mistake twice.

TW never would have been hired if anyone among ND's Administration was racist.

TW also got another job within a week. Davie hasn't coached since.

Did TW get hired again for his skin color?

AMEN JIGGA!!!!!

Let's also add to that, that Ty got the job (that he was sending out feelers for while STILL COACH AT ND).

I want to hear what all of the Ty apologists have to say at the end of the year when U Drub is 1-10 again.

Its obvious he wrote this with the sole purpose of getting a reaction, this is pretty much what "journalism" has come to. No more fact checking, no more accountability, no more responsibility. I read the entire thing with my jaw open, shocked that an outlet like ESPN would willingly host such garbage...

My only reaction is dissapointment in the standards to get a column published these days.

Response to Jason Whitlock

Response to Jason Whitlock

Here's what I emaied to Jason.

Come 'on Jason! True followers of the Notre Dame program know that Willingham won with luck and that is how he ran up that impressive 8-0 record. Then he was exposed from that point forward and Notre Dame let him go for underachieving and getting crushed by their rivals every year, namely USC.

Meanwhile, Weis wins with coaching ability, game planning and strategy. And he's already landed some great recruits (Darrin Walls / CB). And when the recruiting season is over, it will be obvious that he can recruit and land some of the best talent in the country. I wouldn't be surprised if Notre Dame ends up in the top five recruiting classes. He does have 4 Super Bowl rings and had a lot to do with Tom Brady's success and development.

And after several years of highly successful seasons, your take here will look to the rest of the world as it does to those that follow the program...just someone taking of an opportunity to criticize Notre Dame and play the race card. Maybe you are jealous of their academics or prestigious TV contract with NBC. Or maybe you dislike their tremendous fan base. The reality is, Weis has been recognized for his ability and has been rewarded. The university will now be rewarded with years of successful football and a national championship perhaps just a few years away. Then everyone will be saying that the people at Notre Dame must have know something the Jason Whitlock's of the world did not, that Charlie Weis is one of the best coaches in the country.

Notre Dame football is back

Notre Dame football is back

This article just goes to show how much the nation needs Notre Dame football. Every columnist out there wants to do a piece on Notre Dame football now, because they now the attention that it will receive. The people that truly hate Notre Dame football are starting to come out and voice their opinions, wether it be racist or just plain ignorant. They are the ones that do not want to see ND succeed. These are the same guys that are stating that Michigan's team is no good. Don't get me wrong, I hate Michigan being a true ND fan, but somebody correct me if I'm wrong, if Notre Dame had not beat Michigan would they not be around a top 15 team and in the thick of the Big Ten Title hunt even more? Whitlock just showed how ignorant some Americans really can be. Does anyone else remember how bad Willinghams play calls were? Third and ten, and he was calling five yard outs. I would really love to see what Whidiotlock has to say next year when ND is crowned with the National Championship.
