Parris Hitting Rehab Hard
by JASON SAPP

Nearly a month ago, a dislocated hip sidelined future Irish wide receiver Robby Parris for the remainder of his senior season. Ironically, another future ND prospect and teammate John Ryan suffered an injury to join Parris on the sidelines. But the Irish-bound duo are making strides towards a return to the field.
Parris had been posting star-like numbers for St. Ignatius before the hip injury. With all the high-light plays by No. 11, there is one that sticks out in Parris’ mind – the injury play.

"I was going out for a deep ball and got hit by one player high and the other player low," Parris explained. "My body got all twisted around and it popped right out. An hour later they went ahead and were able to pop it back in."

When players dislocate joints in their bodies, at times they are capable of returning after a few weeks of rehabilitation. The same applies for this uncommon injury because of one reason.

"I've been getting therapy at the Cleveland Clinic," Parris said. "It is one of the best rehab places in the country. I didn't need any surgery and I am already running. It's still a little early to tell if I can play, but I've been healing unbelievably fast and am about a month ahead of schedule. If things keep going the way they are, I can probably play in the playoffs, but the decision is in the doctor's hands."

Parris and Ryan are two of the many players on the Ignatius roster waiting to see if they will make the playoffs or not. Unfortunately, neither the healthy nor injured players could make a difference on the field.

"This weekend is a bye weekend so we have to wait and see if we'll make the playoffs," Parris reported Friday night. "We need some teams to win and others to lose in order to make it."

Being on the sidelines watching their teammates has been an extremely hard experience for Parris and Ryan. If Parris does get an opportunity to play, being that his team advances, he may not be alone.

"If everything goes well this weekend, then John will be able to play in the playoffs since he is recovering rather quickly too," Parris added.

If the St. Ignatius season continues, they will be without some impressive numbers from the first six games of the season. Parris recorded 34 receptions for 670 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. With numbers like this, the Notre Dame coaching staff has to be licking their chops about this prospect.

"I've been told in context that I will be able to contribute next year if I'm ready," Parris said, looking to next fall with the Irish. "I don't know what my role will be yet, but I am going to go in and do whatever I can to get on the field."

Like many other top prospects, Parris likes what he sees from the Charlie Weis offense.

"The team is doing awesome," Parris exclaimed. “They are really fun to watch and I'm excited to get a chance to play with some of those guys over the next few years."

Parris and Ryan will be taking their official visits to Notre Dame in December – either Dec. 2 for the banquet weekend or Dec. 10 depending on their success in the playoffs. This prospect can't wait to return to the field, whether it’s with St. Ignatius or with Notre Dame.

They're going to need him.

You really think so? With Rhema & Jeff S back, I can't see any of the receivers taking many catches away from those two talented & experienced players. Plus Hord & Grimes will have a full year in the offense - to me that's a huge advantage that puts them ahead of any incoming recruit on the depth chart. We'll also be stocked at TE & RB - if anything, there probably aren't enough balls to go around with all the talent on offerse Charlie will have at his disposal!

Hord + Grimes still doesn't = Stovall. Then Shelton is gone, too. Assume McKnight comes back 100% and ready to go. I'm holding my breath. I think he's hurt worse than anyone is leading us to believe, which is fine.

I like Parris' size going downfield. Since Hord is in the books, I'd like to see him on the field running patterns and getting passes thrown to him. Otherwise, it will be a waste of a year.

Jiggs, I am with you on this one. I would like to see Hord get some playing time to backup Sam and Rhema (hurt bad?). Parris gives us the big wideout we need with Stovall going. With the year Stovall is having it is easy to forget that it took better coaching, a new system, and 4 years to get where he is. We all know that Weis is going to play the best he's got so let's see what Parris brings. Charlie should have these kinds of "problems" with every position.

I think if Hord plays up to the level that he is touted then he will be just as good if not better then Stovall is or has been. I'd love to land Jackson but I'd say just redshirt Parris this next year.

We would all like to land Jackson but I get the feeling he is going to stay in Fla. He has already mentioned the "cold" weather at ND.

The problem with Grimes and Hord is we don't get to see them in their positions. I know Weis has forgotten more football then I'll ever know but these guys were supposed to be standouts and they aren't on the field.

Penn State has resurged due primarily due to the freshmen that are playing. It is easy to say "red shirt" Parris but it appears we are going to have a great bench stock of receivers unless some of these guys can play another position.

McNeil, recruited as a DB, is playing wideout now in high school along with DB and he is looking great. To me the only way to thin the ranks is to let these guys play but don't hold your breath. It appears C-dub has other plans.

I have to bring this up again: Darrin Walls going both ways.

He is playing RB right now in high school, but I'd love to see him get into the mix.

Make now mistake, if these guys can play they'll be on the field.

To lose Jackson to Miami and Austin to UCLA would hurt the position. If there are rumors to Ausberry looking into ND, I'd hope they would pursue him hard. He's the best of the bunch in my opinion.
