I don't think its possible, but how great would it be if USC, Texas, and VA Tech won out, and Texas and VA tech played in the national championship game, leaving USC out. That would cause such an uproar in the media that they would be forced to strongly consider a playoff system in the future.

The whole BCS thing is ridiculous. It's time that the "powers that be" dump the BCS and institute a fair playoff system. It would be great for college football and the interest would be phenomenal!

The "powers that be" would feel the heat and would strongly consider a playoff system - and change nothing. The powers that be are the Chambers of Commerce of the Bowl Cities that started the bowls as a tourist attraction - a money maker. After decades of having things to themselves, Roy Kramer then Commissioner of the SEC muscled in for a pie. Kramer championed the SEC playoff, whoops, Championship Game, negotiated contracts with multiple bowls guaranteeing lucrative slots for his league's team and then promptly dummied down the league scheduling to guarantee filling the maximum number of bowl eligible slots. In his spare time he became the first commissioner of the Bowl Championship Committee the guys that wrote the rules of the selection. The Powers that be that tell the computer guys what numbers they want to see to maintain the status quo.

The media will squawk and the money will stay in the same hands while we wring ours.

And why is that?

UCLA could tank, as could Notre Dame and anyone else SC has played or will play. They were discussing it this morning on ESPN Radio. There is a very good chance it COULD happen, but very unlikely that it will.

This is a complete joke if you ask me. Texas rated number one over USC? Based on what?

No one is better than USC right now. No one. They've come back on the road and have blasted anyone they should have blasted at home. I'll give Texas the Ohio State game, but the Big 12 is down and they've been at home quite a bit.

Each team has played who they've played, but SC has played better teams on the road.

Division I-AA, II, III, NAIA and everyone else have a 16 team playoff. Includes conferences champs and at large teams that have QUALITY WINS.

It can be done, they just don't want it to. Money trumps all else. Plain and simple.

I think with the popularity of NCAA Basketball, a 16 team playoff would be awesome. I was a part of two playoff games in consecutive years and it was the best experience in my career. I'm sure being 6-5 and playing in a December bowl game that ends up COSTING my athletic department money is quite a thrill (puking on my shoes....now), but being a conference champ and hosting another conference champ in a playoff game was phenomenal.

And don't tell me these guys have mid terms and finals, because I did too and I have two degrees. Playoff football didn't derail my education.

You play 11 regular season games, 12 TOPS. The high seeds host, the semifinals and finals get played on neutral fields.

D I-A has way more money than I-AA does. Make it happen.

Based on there beloved computer rankings... And you are right Jigga it actually could happen. And to be honest ND doesnt even have to tank but UCLA does need to lose a couple. Georgia or Bama need to win out as well as VT and of course Texas, and I think USC drops to 3rd.

Would the BCS committee have any recourse if this happens?

I for one will be rooting like hell for Stanford this weekend.

I figure the more unbeatens, the better. Hopefully one year there will be 4. That would really screw things up.

It's going to happen, too. You watch. And it won't be Utah.

Imagine, UCLA, Texas, Va Tech and Alabama all go unbeaten. Then what?

Yeah 4 unbeatens would be awesome and I think even more people would stand up and take notice. But if USC stays unbeaten and still falls to third what then???

USC who has played for the last two NC's and their winning streak will be what 32 games at that point and doesnt play for this years national championship.

If that scenario happens I think the BCS is done. And the most hilarious part about it is they have gotten themselves in a position where they cant fudge the numbers so that USC would play...they would totally be invalidating themselves.

Last year, Auburn screwed themselves with their non-SEC schedule. Nonetheless, the two best teams played for the title in SC and OU.

However, there is NO reason why an unbeaten school from ANY of the BCS conferences should not get a chance. None. Even Utah should have gotten a shot to prove themselves.

The only way it happens is a 16 team playoff. No more, no less than 16.
