anyone watching this, PSU is leading 56-3 at the half. Isiah Williams would be smart to sign elsewhere. I don't think we have to ever worry about Zook outrecruiting Weis........

Penn State is the real deal, the job Joe Pa has done is seperates great coaches from good coaches.

Ron Zook has so long to go. The recruits have been saying this isn't affecting them, and I believe it. They will all be starting next year.

Marques Wilkins, an Illini commit, was at the SC game last week. He's on ND's radar all of the sudden.

Zook is going to have to recruit the state very hard.

Penn State is back, folks.

You obviously didn't watch the game, he didn't pile it on.

I think that's what Queens meant. They only score one TD after halftime, Joe Pa wasn't piling it on in the second half. I don't think Queens was being sarcastic when he said that.

They scored 56 the first half, anfd only 7 in second half, therefore Joe Pa wasn't piling it on.

Maybe it is just me, but when Penn State, Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame, all of the major college teams are good all is right in the world. It is of course the way it should be when ND is the most dominat team out ther.

There's no question.

These Penn State-ND games in the next couple of years could end up being like this year's SC game. Paterno has the defense to contend again.

Alabama also has a great defense, but they're missing some key offensive players and could get bumped off.

I am starting to believe in Texas. I think they could end up playing UCLA in the Rose Bowl....and that isn't a typo. That's UCLA.

Ah, but in 2 years, will JoePa have a team at all? He ain't getting any younger, and I've long wondered if the reason he hasn't retired up until now is because he didn't want to be the stubborn old guy who was in denial about his declining coaching skills and hung on for a decade after his last good season. I think he wants to go out on a high note, and this year counts as one.

I also have to wonder if his players have picked up on something about him, something that says "this is it." I doubt he would come right out and tell the team if he was planning on this being his last year, but he seems like someone who would give off a lot of unintentional hints if that was on his mind. If I was on that team, I'd want to give JoePa one hell of a send-off. Winning the Big 11 would sure qualify.

I live in the heart of PSU country. There isn't a fan base as annoying as PSU fans. First of all they always refer to PSU in the first person "We beat Illinois" (sometimes pronounce Ill-a-noise). Second they litter their cars with paw print magnets and "If God wasn't a PSU fan then why is sky blue and white" bumper stickers. Third and most annoying last year JoePa was the worst coach in the history of the world; this year he's the best ever and should coach forever.

I wouldn't be surprised to see PSU meet up with ND in BCS bowl. I'd like to see it because Michael Robinson is a 50% passer prone to error and PSU's defense hasn't seen anything like what ND brings.

Does anyone here remember the Snow Bowl? That was one of the best games I ever say when I was younger. When Meier hit the 2 pt conversion I still can tell you where I was. I will say that game was one that really solidified the fact to me that Notre Dame was a special team.

My Dad was at that game and was on the field in that endzone when that play occured, I have the piece of turf that Reggie Brooks foot tore up when he caught that ball. My Dad was also a student in 1973 when ND beat USC and they tore down the goal post, he got a good sized piece of the goal post which I also have.

If anyone saw any of the game, Illinois shows absolutely no resemblance of a football team. They were downright horrible. Mike Robinson is no passer and the PSU offense is mediocre at best but the corners and safeties for the Fightless Illini put up about as little resitance as a team could. Ron Zook should be ashamed of himself for allowing his team to get torched by one of the most simplistic offenses in all of college football.

PSU is not back yet. They have padded their schedule with patsies and have really only played 2 tough games all season. The 5-0 start gave this team incredible confidence (I know, I'm on the campus every other weekend and have seen much of their games this season) and they became believers. Confidence is a dangerous thing - as Notre Dame fans must know by now. PSU loses all of their secondary and a couple guys from the D'Line. And who knows what Poszlusny will do.

PSU's gameplan can be described by this, "Don't make any mistakes, get a lead, run the ball, and don't give up any big plays." Sounds simple (and it is) but they execute it as well as anyone. I'd like to see waht this team will do against a solid team when playing from behind. They will get smoked.

Again, you play who you play. Notre Dame would not be 5-2 with last year's staff. Period. Penn State has not been beating the likes of, well, anyone lately and they've won close games against Northwestern and Ohio State. That's two tough wins right there, plus a loss to scUM on the last play of the game. And the beat down they gave Minnesota?

The schedules are made up years in advance. It's not like they've played garbage and gotten killed against good teams. They're home for Purdue and Wisconsin, then close with MSU on the road. Anything can happen, but I like their chances in all three of those games.

Here's something funny:

Illinois got a verbal Sunday morning from an O-Lineman from Ohio named Ryan Palmer.

He was at the PSU game.

I was hoping to get a better read on PSU with the ILLINOIS game but it still left me with a lot of questions. PSU cannot be that good and I can't believe Zook is that bad. I agree he should be ashamed of his team but that performance was horrific. The recruits may think this is OK because they will be playing sooner but they will flounder unless the coaching is there.( ND fans know a little bit about this). ILLINOIS literally gave up in that game and that is the death knell for a coach.

For those who think Zook is the answer to ILLINOIS problems I would like to hear from you in 3 years when he is out on the street again.

GREAT!!! That 'Snow Bowl' was the second best game I was ever at (second to FSU '93)....unfortunately, we play them in early Sept and even in SoBe, snow then is unlikely.....

OH YES...Still remember Bobby Taylor (as a frosh) blocking the PAT....was in the sophmore student section, we were all saying Hail Marys on that last drive. You could also hear a pin drop on the 2pt conversion, until we scored of course, then it was bedlam....rushed the field. FOND memory.

He can recruit, but can he coach? That will be the biggest question to be answered. He rallied them in the opener against Rutgers, but they haven't shown much life since then.

This team is bad. They've been bad since Kurt Kittner, Rocky Harvey and Jerry Shumacher all graduated. Take into account that Iowa has taken all of the talent out of here, the cupboard is bare.

Zook is getting commits, but what he does with them remains to be seen.
