OK guys. Now that were getting down to the wire let's talk about what we need and would like to see in the committments. Let's say we have 6 more scholies to give. I would like to see 2 interior OL and a tight end, 1WR,and 2
DL (maybe 1LB and a rush end). Pick-em

Big Don read my mind. I was just thinking this a few hours ago at lunch.

I look at recruits like I looked at Sorority girls in college: I like them all, but I can only have a select few.

My six would be Matt Carufel, Richard Jackson, Sam Young, Chris Stewart, Butch Lewis and Gerald McCoy.

The lines are very thin. Carufel, Young and Stewart plus Olsen and Webb would be awesome. McCoy and Lewis would make a great addition to Trevor Laws and Darrell Hand at DT. Jackson is my favorite receiver of the group offered.

If they should get three early enrollees, take the three LB Smith, Richardson and Lewis.

Otherwise, these 3 OL, 2 DT and WR are the highest on my wish list.

Which six can be debated many different ways, but my favored remaining recruit is McCoy. Our D-line is good, but they are not dominant and they are not deep. Everything on defense starts with disrupting the offensive line. I think he's a guy that can do this.

I'm agreeing with Scooper a lot today.

McCoy would be first and foremost on the list. Landri and Laws both return in '06, but McCoy could see some time of the field. He is VERY good. His video doesn't lie.

He's like a machine. Doubled, tripled, whatever...he finishes.

Am I right that you guys are assuming Kates is ND's?

I like Jiggi's 6, Matt Carufel, Richard Jackson, Sam Young, Chris Stewart, Butch Lewis and Gerald McCoy. Althought I'm not sold on Jackson, his 26" vertical jump looks like a linesman's not an athletic receiver.

I'm assuming Kates isn't on board right now.

I think Jackson fits the current mold of ND receivers...tall, lanky, rangey.

West and Gallup are little guys. Parris is big. Austin and LaRon Moore also little guys. David Grimes, little guy. They're all fast, but I love the big WR. Shark, Parris, Jackson and Hord streaking down field....awesome.

Is Lemming measuring height with helmets on?

Scout and rivals still list him at 5-9 and 4.5 or 4.6.

I would scratch out Smith and take Anthony Lewis. Then scratch out Wenger for Sam Young. I was disappointed to see McCoy gave his visit 9 out of 10. What more could the kid what? Needless to say, I would love to have McCoy as our DT of the future with some training from Mendoza...scary.

With early enrollment, we can take more than six, maybe 9 or 10. I think of the 9, 3 Offensive Lineman, 2 Defensive Tackles, 2 Linebackers, and either 2 Wide Receivers, or 1 WR and TE Konrad Rueland. Also, TE Will Yeatman could come as a lacrosse commit, and would not count towards ND's football commits. That frees up one spot. Here's my optimistic list:

OL Sam Young
OL Matt Carufel
OL Chris Stewart
OL/DL Butch Lewis
DL Gerald McCoy
LB Anthony Lewis
LB Toryan Smith
WR Richard Jackson
WR Terrance Austin or TE Rueland

After O & D linemen, our biggest need is linebacker. I think we really need Smith and Lewis. If I was Charlie, I'd also give some consideration to moving Zibby to linebacker, providing he can add 20 pounds in the off season. He already has a linebacker's mentality. That would also open spots for the new safety recruits who are supposed to be so good.

hmmmm not a bad idea....move Zibby to LB. Interesting. open up a spot for the incoming Safety prospects ( Brown, Gaines and Gordon )

I think it is a bad idea but I'll play.

Move Zibby to Apache (he's an experienced Safety and only have to put on 10 lbs).
Move Crum to one of the other LB Slots.
Move McCarthy, Bruton, or Herring or Duke into SS with one of the others at WS.

I'm not sure how this post turned into a makeover of the depth chart. I'll humor it, though: There are linebackers on the roster, just not with much experience. Quinn, Smith, Washington, Brockington, Mithcell Thomas. All can play. The entire secondary will return should Richardson take his fifth year. I think that would be a good idea.

As for Moore, I haven't seen him listed this tall and 5-11 for a receiver is still not big by today's standards.

Shark and Stovall have great size. Most corners are 6-0 or 6-1 at best. It doesn't take much more than a fade to get the ball to a receiver that's 6-3 while he's being covered by one of these guys.

I like the size of Walls and McNeil. Throw in Brown and Gaines, they're all six footers in the secondary.

Hopefully they can all play football, too.

All I know is Weis did pretty well with some small receivers in New England. I'm sure he'd like to have some size, but most importantly, can they play?

How interesting that someone brings this up.

Wanted to see if anyone knew where I was taking this. Scoop, I think we have ESP.

This team is being built in the imagine of the Patriots.

James Aldridge (Corey Dillon), Munir Prince (Kevin Faulk) and shifty downfield receivers (Gallup, West). The blueprint here has been obvious to me as the verbals keep coming in. Lots of dual tight end formations, various packages and the players to run them.

I can't wait to see what Weis will do with Luke Schmidt. That guy will be all over the place.

I've seen ex coaches and players on NFL shows comment on Weis and ND on several occassions. They all say it's like watching New England. They recognize so much of the offense.

That's not to say I think Weis doesn't want guys with size. I think he wants guys that can play, period. Then he will tailor the offense to their strengths. Ultimately, it would be nice to have a good mix. He has done a great job this year of play-calling to take advantage of Smardzija's and Stovall's size.

I think Zibby would be an excellent backer. He has that mentality. They need some guys with range back there in those safety positions. Zibby and Nedu get out of position alot, which is one reason they give up so many big plays. It would be nice to have some guys who could cover the field. That would also give us some much needed speed at linebacker.

It's easy to see that Charlie is building the college version of the New England Patriots. If you noticed on Saturday, he really used Travis Thomas in a very effective way. The backfield will be loaded with talent. One guy leaves, let's just plug in the next guy. that's exciting to me. That's called reloading. That's something that we Domers haven't seen in a long time.
