Just for fun, what would you guys like to see at ND stadium? Jumbotron? Gold Turf? Seat Backs? Let's hear it!

Two things got me going on this: (1) at the purdue game I sat right behind PU's band. The only play I really saw was golsons fumble. (2) I had a great time at soldier field.

For me, number one is a jumbotron or two. Something well run and tasteful (I.e not like purdue or MSU).

Next, and hear me out, I want a balcony level that goes 3/4 around the field (leaving TD Jeebus his view of the game). With the balcony come luxury boxes for the old farts. Tear out gold seats (or expand them to the whole lower bowl). Balcony level should sell beers, it can be the rowdy party deck.

Lastly, a ban on anyone named Tom Hammond.

A jumbotron is a number one must for the stadium. Plus thank God we are getting field turf for next season. On google if you type in Notre Dame jumbotron rendering then you can see what a ND student thinks the stadium should look like. I would love it.

I strongly agree with all of these.

Jumbotron, more seats, acoustic design to capture fan noise, and player facilities/stuff to attract even more recruits.

And anything that makes more money that doesn't take away from the experience or crowd noise. Seriously. Alabama used FEMA dollars to build condos around Bryant-Denny stadium for crying out loud.

^ agree. Anything that increases capacity or noise without losing atmosphere.

Anything like this and it would be sweetness. I would make the jumbotron much bigger though.

A lingerie league team. Yeah, it may be a bit chilly, but the nips stand at attention very nicely. :)

That is sick! I would like the 'trons built into something like in the picture above. UM's scoreboards are just monstrous things sticking out of the top of the stadium. If they could make the screens built into a sort of structure themselves, I think it would be awesome.

I've loved this design since it was first posted here. Take away the seating in the end zone that has obstructed the view of TD Jesus since 97', but add more around it to increase the total number of seating. I know a lot of people want ND stadium to be left as is, but, since the addition, I've always felt like Rock's house was not what it used to be. If changes have already been made to such an historic stadium, why not go all out?

I've been in favor of that stadium mock up since the first day I saw it on here. Love the way that the jumbotron is built in (like the old ND Stadium scoreboards), the cut in the bleachers for optimal TDJ viewing, and the addition of luxury boxes while preserving the architecture. Beautiful.

The only other thing I want is gold field goal posts. For real though.

And also, white turf with navy yard markers and sidelines. Not really though.

Since everyone's jumped on the Oregon changing-uniforms bandwagon, wouldn't it be cool if you could change the turf too? Probably cost-prohibitive, but would be neat in theory.

Since Notre Dame Stadium is originally modeled after Michigan Stadium, it's only logical that we take the next step:

What the Wolverines have done is gorgeous. Notre Dame should follow suit.

I'm with whoever it was above that said they don't like the way the scoreboards at the big house look. They look kind of pasted on and gaudy on an otherwise pretty cool looking stadium.

EDIT: Oh, and I hate the way that the stadium is gated in, like a little "complex." You can be outside of the stadium, but still inside the "complex." This, I do not like.

I was referring to the boxes. But yeah, their scoreboard is just classic and nothing special. Notre Dame can do better.

Yeah, I agree that the boxes look good. You're right, the mock up "follows suit," but I think it does so REALLY nicely.

I agree, but I'm tired of ND following suite against Michigan when it comes to building a stadium. We need to do something BIG(not sure what that woul be). I don't think there's an expansion in the future that would bring us up to their capacity, but, just something that really sets us apart.

I like the Jumbotron for two reasons. Like any field I believe it helps people see the game better, there's no way to argue that.

Secondly, particularly with the many and long NBC timeouts, it gives the university an avenue to keep the crown engaged. It doesn't have to be commercial. You can promote other sports and their schedules, special events at the university, Irish history, spotlights on other athletes, pump up videos, etc.

It's a tool the university can use to promote its purpose and achievements.

The bolded part I don't like. Your tv at home also helps you see the game better, but you don't bring it to the game. You are at the game to be a part of the atmosphere. I don't mind the occasional replay (especially on challenged calls), but when the jumbotron is showing whats happening live, it's too easy to start watching that instead of what's on the field, and that is the aspect that I hate.

The second part I completely agree with, and would love to see.

Cut out the end zone seats above the tunnel so that TDJ is fully visible. I can't imagine a more intimidating field goal for an opposing kicker to kick towards. Add on seats around the stadium to make up for losing 5,000-10,000 by doing this.

Oh, and add jumbotrons. I want to see how the grass holds up before I 100% say I want turf field.

I would if I could and there's no Jumbotron. LOL but I understand your point. I've never been to a game where there wasn't a time I wish I could see what was happening better. I think it helps people stay engaged better.

What about actually pumping-in crowd noise through the speakers? During a 3rd down or something? Is that legal?

Good idea(don't know if that's a rules violation, though). But, if we brought scUM to the point where they couldn't even get a play off with a little over 60,000 fans in 1988, I would feel like we had somehow failed as a fan base if we can't do it again at over 81,000. We shouldn't need help from a sound system.

Interesting, I thought their changes were not very good. At all. Just look tacked on to me, like an addition, not part of the original structure.

I would wish for a new sound system. I used to be for the jumbo Tron but after the colts game i can't say I'm a big fan of them. The only way i would go for one is no live feed but that will never happen. I wouldn't be opposed to boxes either but if you did that notch out for td Jesus back to the stadiums original height.
