That is good news!

On the scholarship front ND has to my knowledge honored scholarship commitments to athletes that get injured before enrolling. Most, if not all of the situations I'm aware of occurred after signing day. While I don't think ND would quibble, I don't know if there's an NCAA regulation that governs this situation. The Peters situation involved a student athlete that could no longer play sports.

IF, notice the caps, Parris rehab extends into/past the '06 season he could be redshirted. If his rehab extended into the second season I don't know if he would qualify for a medical reshirt (another year of eligibility) for an injury sustained in high school. Meanwhile he would count against the 25/85 if on an athletic ride.

I should think ND can't offer him a nonathletic scholarship unless he is declared medically unfit to play sports otherwise they might be accused of trying to circumvent the 25 maximum football scholarship rule. Say they award his slot to another receiver and grant him a nonatheletic ride. After a year or so his rehab allows him to take up sports. Obviously at that point he would count against the 85 but would ND have been guilty of "stockpiling"?

BGIF--I agree that ND can't offer a non-athletic to Parris. If that were allowed all schools would be granting them to potential athletes to insure a sure supply of players/

I don't know if Peters ever attended ND but ifhe did accept the Holtz gift he would have been counted in the 85.

Thanks for the info.

Jigga--Check the recruiting list at ndnation.com McDaniel is listed there

He likes Miami, Florida, FSU, LSU and Ohio State. It doesn't look like ND has a chance.

I got an email telling me Peters attended ND for 2 years on a nonathletic scholarship then he transferred. He was not counted against the 85.

ND will have Parris, despite WR's injury
By BOB WIENEKE Tribune Staff Writer Oct 5, 2005

Notre Dame football recruit Robby Parris will miss the rest of the season after suffering a dislocated right hip in a game last Saturday, but expects to be ready to play next season at ND.

"Oh yeah," the 6-foot-4, 190-pound receiver said, "I'll be fine by next year. I know I'll be back next year."

Parris, who plays at Cleveland St. Ignatius, suffered the injury while attempting to catch a pass.

"He got hit in a strange position," said St. Ignatius coach Chuck Kyle. "He was trying to catch the ball in kind of an awkward position, got hit and, just the way he landed, he was folded in a weird way. I don't know how to describe it. He was bent and folded and the hip popped out."

"It was probably the most painful thing I've ever been through my entire life," said Parris, who also suffered a minor knee injury on the play.

Parris was taken off the field on a stretcher and transported to a nearby hospital, where the hip was put back in place. Surgery was not required.

"It was bam, he got right over there," Kyle said. "Within 40 minutes they had the hip totally back in, which is 99 percent of the battle with this injury. That's what I'm told."

Parris expects to begin rehabilitation in a month or two, and has been told that rehab should last anywhere from three to six months. Parris said he will rehab with the Cleveland Browns. First-year Browns coach Romeo Crennel and ND coach Charlie Weis previously coached together with the New England Patriots.

In six games this season, Parris caught 32 passes for 675 yards and 12 touchdowns. In a game at Penn two weeks ago, Parris caught 10 passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns.

Parris is wearing a brace on his hip and is using crutches. The injury will also prevent him from playing basketball this season.

32 catches for 675 yards and 12 TDs is a good season much less 1/2 a season total. He's averaging a TD about every 2-1/2 touches.
