At least ND's loss was in an overtime game!

What do ya think? Why is Miami in the top 10 with that schedule?

I honestly think we are ranked about right. Plus, I'd rather be ranked in the 20s because if we do upset USC, it would be even better.

Why would it be better?

What if ND beats USC in two weeks, where do you think ND will be ranked?

It won't happen, not with our Defensive backfield. We might score a lot, but USC will score at will. To answer your question, it won't matter because Hell would have frozen over.

Because can you believe the stories ESPN would have to play if a 20th-ranked Notre Dame squad, who all of their analysts have dogged all year, beat the "juggernaut" that USC is labeled?

It would be a meltdown in Bristol.

If we beat them, I can see us in the Top 8, maybe even Top 5. Or, the voters could sit on their hands and keep doing the same.

BOOOO! Sure USC is better on paper, but the game is played on grass.

By your logic USA Hockey shouldn't have stepped on the ice against USSR in Lake Placid, Buster Douglas should have fallen down with the first Tyson punch, Joe Namath's Jets should have just given the Super Bowl to the Colts, and the '69 Mets should have stayed in Spring Training. Those were upsets of epic proportions.

Beating USC is not impossible, difficult but not impossible. And this team can do it.

Have to agree. W/ the sloppy play from USC in the first half of the last couple games, if they play like that against ND in the first half at South Bend, i think the irish have a shot. Still a long shot mind you, but a shot at least.

Nothing is impossible, I'm just saying it won't happen. (sorry to bring you guys down) As long as we have a good showing, I will consider it a victory.

I agree with Legend I was at the Miami game when they lost to FSU. Both teams looked like ass.
And NDs schedule is harder.
When all is said and done. I really do not care for the polls too much but when obvious injustices occur it really gets to me.

The first team to 50pts wins this game. :) Holtz was almost unstoppable with 2 weeks or more to prepare lets see what Charlie can do with the extra time.

We will win this game!!! I have this funny feeling that ND is holding something back. However, if we do not learn to defend the option to right, we are in trouble. Purdue and Michigan state ran it with great success against our D.

Isn't this the "mediocre" attitude that some of you are still bashing TW about in posts one week after beating him? With statements like this, chalk one up for the ceasing of posts on that particular gentleman from here on out once and for all. If the quote above doesn't prove my point, I don't know what does. So a close loss would be okay? Hell, 6-5 sounds good again too!

I'm driving two hours there for that game and they'd better WIN it. They could lose by 50 or 1 and I'll be pissed either way.

USC is a great team, but two weeks to prepare is a lot of time. Morton and McKnight could be healthy by then giving ND full strength on both sides of the ball. It is going to take their very best effort, especially on defense. NO turnovers and NO field goals. I'll put ND up against Arizona State and Oregon any day of the week. USC hasn't played anyone this good yet.

If Leinart breaks an ankle against Arizona, all bets are off. Remember, they still have a game to play. They'll win, but anyone can get hurt out there.

You are damn right, Jig. If we lose, I will be pissed.

You think Weis and company are sitting around saying "if we keep it close, it will be a moral victory." Hell no - there are no moral victories. Winning is on their mind.

GO Irish, Beat Trojans!

2 weeks for Charlie Weis to prepare...for a game at home with an excited crowd... hmmm... I smell me some upset

I expect something of the vintage Colts - Pats AFC Championship game last year... The Colts Offense didn't see much of the field that day... I can see Charlie dinking and dunking down the field already... Matt Leinart sitting on the sideline trying to keep his arm warm... Pete Carrol squinting at the scoreboard... wondering what's happening to his reputation as a football genius.

I'm excited just thinking about this.

Make no mistake though, the offense has to utilize every possession.

I agree, I think the only way that the Irish can win is if it turns into a shootout, and the Irish can make one more play that SC.

To absorb the beauty of the current polls i have to rely on a Toby Keith song:

Hey Urban, "HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW".
