ND Chasing Jimmy Clausen

There is an article in today's Chicago Sun Times about HS junior QB Jimmy Clausen. ND, USC and Tennessee are all in the hunt for this kid already.

He's 6-3, 200 and analysts are saying he'd be the number one QB in this year's senior class as well. Steve Spurrier has also been calling.

Jimmy is the younger brother of Rick and Casey Clausen, QBs at Tennessee. With Erik Ainge at Tennessee, Mark Sanchez at USC and the Jones-Frazer tandem coming to ND...Clausen could be in a logjam at any of these schools for playing time. However, there are many who feel Clausen can arrive into just about any program and get into the mix right away. Tom Lemming made comparisons to John Elway, Jeff George, Dan Marino and Chris Leak.

In regards to ND, it is mentioned that the recruting of Clausen has no bearing on Frazer or Jones at all, and vice versa. Most kids are fully aware that big time programs recruit a top ranked QB each year. It goes on to state that Weis has assured Jones he will compete only at QB and not at receiver.

They did a piece about this kid on Outside the Lines. Called him the Lebron James of football. I dunno, I get a little worried about anyone who is this hyped up. The pressure can get to a young kid like that sometimes.

I find it promising that Weis is on the hunt for juniors already.

I think the best place for this kid to go would be South Carolina. He'd start as a frosh and be under the Ball Coach, new and improved.

After Quinn's last season, Jones, Frazer and Sharpley will battle for the starting spot. Add Clausen into the mix...whoa.

Clausen and his father have to be intrigued by Weis. Imagine four years under Weis for this kid. Scary.

I saw the OTL piece on ESPN. The brief clips I saw of this kid were impressive. His abillity is very advanced.

The next Elway or Todd Marinovich? We'll see.

Well, this kid is said to be the highest regarded recruit ever! Pete Caroll has already verbally told him he has a scholarship. We should do everything and anything to land this kid.

You'd think he'd go to UT and follow his brothers, but he may want to blaze his own trail since he's much better than both of them ever were. He looked phenomenal on Outside the Lines. Believe the hype, this kid is Lebron in cleats.

According to OTL, these teams have all violated NCAA rules by doing so because he had offers BEFORE his junior year even started.

ND has not offered him, they've looked at him as far as I know. Weis has shown interest, but no offer has been extended of any kind.

I am pretty sure OTL said that ND has offered Clausen a scholarship. After watching his tape on OTL I sure in the hell hope we have. I have to wonder what would happen to Frazer or Jones if we would land Clausen. Coach Weis would make him earn the spot for sure. His highlights were very very impressive. But can he read coverages and defenses? Those were high school coverages and defenses he was reading...I am assuming he can.

Well Sout Carolina will have Blake Mitchell at QB when Jimmy arrives, and if I am not mistaken wasnt Blake a former Elite 11 qb?

Notre Dame has not made an offer!!! Even C-dub knows you can't offer a junior a scolarship!
Will the NCAA do anything about the schools that have offered him?

ND hasn't offered, but they've seen and they've liked.
