Not sure if this has been brought up before...

I am a defensive guy, and love to talk strategy.

How many different schemes do you think we will see on Saturday against Pitt? Where the Apache lines up in the different schemes will be very interesting.

Just a small anecdote regarding C-Dub and the defense. C-Dub was meeting with the NY Giants management (whom he is still very close with) back a few months ago and was talking about Brady Quinn - CDub is so high on BQ -- believes he will be best in the country. Says ND is gonna score alot of points. Then the subject of the defense came up - and Charlie replied that "they" are young and not very good yet -- to which Ernie Acorsi says - Charlie, they are not THEY anymore - its we.

Weis has purposely gone out of his way to make pessimistic comments about his defense....while they are in earshot of him. Can the pass D get much worse? I guess, seeing as they were 116 out of 117.

Defensively, Abiamari will be unleashed this season. A strong pass rush will lead to much better results from the secondary.

Going off of the last time ND saw Pitt, you'd have to think a lot of nickel and dime coverages are in order, but Wannstedt wants to run the ball. Pitt couldn't run last year, but they have a stud freshman RB that is pretty good....Rashad Jennings.

I have no idea how this hybrid "Apache" position is going to work, but I'll be watching. I would expect Mo Crum Jr. to knock the snot out of some people.

Hopefully Minter disguises everything as much as possible.

Pitt's O-line is their weak point so maybe they'll hold off running the ball if we can stop it early.

Great quote weisfaninmass!!!! Hopefully whatever Charlie sees in practices shows up on the field. I believe that BQ has the tools to be great, but he is going to need the help of his wideouts (who have been suspect the past few years).

I think were going to see some hybrid 4-2-5 also with apache lining up in several different spots to confuse palko. I too think we will see Crum Jr. knock somebody back to spring ball.

Also I think you will see quite a bit of LB blitzes out of the 4-2-5.

From what I saw at the Blue-Gold game, I think there is going to be a big upgrade in the athleticism at LB with Crum in there...this should be a big help in pass protection. At least we wont see RB's and TE's blow by Curry (a GREAT run defender and pass rusher; a liability in coverage).
