Demetrius Jones actually commited a week ago but wanted to wait until today to bring his mom to meet the coaching staff and announce it publicly.
GO IRISH!

I forgot to add that he's been a silent verbal for the past few months. He just decided to make sure he was 100% sure of it. He said the Irish coaches handled his recruitment very well.
GO IRISH!

This is sweet. Any ideas of what we will do now with him and Frazer? Will he stay at QB? Lou would have loved this guy because he probably would have been an awesome option QB.

I would hope they're not considering using him as a WR. He's a QB. Play him there.

Yeah that would be pretty messed up to take one of the best QBs in the class, recruit him as a QB and then put him in a different position.

I know most are against two QB's splitting time, but their both totally different QB's. It would confuse the hell out of an opposing team. If Frazer wins the starting job, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Jones come in on certain plays.

As long as it doesn't look like a Willinghams last attempt at stupidity like last years game agianst USC. Bringing in Holiday and putting Quinn out for a pass. Pure genius......

So what if Mitch Mustain came out and said he wanted to play at Notre Dame? What would happen then?

Talk about an crazy situation. Anyone think Frazier may have second thoughts?

I would think that because Weis is a very straight forward man, that when he was recruiting both QB's that he informed them that he wanted to take 2 top QB's so I think they both knew that they were not going to be the ONLY guys he wanted and went after

Mustain could be headed to Arkansas now. Miami already has a kid, ND has their two, so the Razorbacks make the most sense.

Jones is much more raw than Frazer appears to be, but Jones will be a tough kid in a few years. Mendoza will need to bulk him up and his working with Vaas and Weis will be lethal.

I'll be at Morgan Park's opener at Soldier Field on August 27th. I'm looking forward to seeing Jones play live.

Big Mistake

Big Mistake

Jones is garbage. Weis should have revoked his scholarship in order to wait for Mustain to verbal. We all know that Mitch Mustain is a better QB the D. Jones could ever turn out to be. For all the nay-sayers that say Weis was recruiting Jones the hardest, that just isn't true. He was actively recruiting Mitch Mustain harder than any other player on the board. He did this by bringing in Bartley Webb. Top propects are more likely to commit if a teammate already has i.e. : Prince and Mullen and Parris and Ryan.

Why is he garbage? Could you elaborate further?

Disappointed. The two QB thing is not going to work and we're not going back to the option offense. The only way is with strong armed pocket passers! I hope Mustain knows he would definately beat Jones out and only have to compete with Frazer.

These comments are comical. Jones has perhaps the strongest arm in the nation according to many analysts. Not sure how landing the #11 recruit in the nation (Frazer) and the #33 (Jones) is a bad thing. Between injuries, academic issues, busts, transfers, and signing day changes you can't recruit one QB. Remember when we lost C.J. Leak (who qualified for all the above items) on signing day.

Point of clarification too, Weis' plan to recruit 2 QB's doesn't mean he is going to play 2 QB's. One will red shirt and hopefully be stellar in their last year and in a backup for injuries. If my memory is correct, USC has had Palmer, Leinart, and Matt Cassell all in uniform for several years and this has produced 2 Heismans and Cassell looks great so far for the Pats.

We have had a weak walk-on (Dillingham) the last 2 years as the #2. Weis is going to give himself many options with the talent he is landing.

First off, Jones doesn't run the option. Morgan Park runs a varied offense and most of his rushing yards are off of roll outs or broken plays. He drops back, makes all the throws and happens to be fleet footed. Frazer is a classic drop back passer, but he has cynder blocks in his pants and can't run to save his life. Now look at ND's offensive line situation as it stands and tell me how that projects. These players both have their strengths and weaknesses. However Tom Lemming ranks them is irrelevant to me.

Calling Jones "garbage" because one player from Arkansas is supposedly better is crazy. There isn't a single evaluation of his skills in that post to back up calling him "garbage." I don't know who Mustain plays against down there, but Jones plays in Chicago, Illinois in Class 7A. I know nothing about the competition in Arkansas, but Jones plays some pretty good teams both in the city and in the state playoffs.

Third, Jones' teammate Ramone Johnson is an uncommitted offensive lineman still on ND's master list. Who is to say that Jones' verbal might not bring Johnson with him? Most boards I've seen rank Johnson higher than Bartley Webb, but take that for what it's worth since neither has played a snap of their senior year of high school, let alone a snap of college football.

People talked about Donovan McNabb like this over ten years ago. He wasn't good enough for Illinois. Joke. I laughed then and I laugh now when I hear people, mostly ND fans, talk about making Jones a receiver or a corner or small forward or whatever brilliant ideas they can come up with.

Charlie Weis knows what he's doing. He's seen the film that most people with opinions have not. I trust his judgement.

I couldn't agree with you more. Why anyone would think that Jones is garbage is beyond me. As weisfan said many FOOTBALL analysts think that the only thing Jones is lacking is a few small tweaks to his mechanics. I think with Weis and Vaas those tweaks will be put in place.

Yep, Finally someone gets it. I am almost 100% positive this is what Weis has planned.

I think another big issue here is that the signing of Jones (and Sergio Brown later) will hopefully go a long way in rebuilding the broken Chicagoland pipeline that we've missed out on in recent years.

Now you're speaking my language. Iowa came in here last year and raided this place. Sickening. It has become a national hotbed and ND has been losing out. Weis is making a point to get back in here and I love it. He and the staff have made a great impression on the network of coaches in the area.

Give me a break. Jones is not garbage. He is a top-10 qb prospect on everybody's list, ranked #2 by Rivals. And please note that bashing on commits will not be tolerated.

Big land for ND, this is the one guy that I think offensively the Irish needed to land it shows that Weis can bring in two of the best players at their position and proves that once again ND is becoming a national power in terms of recruiting.

Can someone lock this thread?

Everytime I read that opinion that some have of D. Jones it makes me wince.

And then I think how hypocritical some people are to post a statement like that and then turn around and post something else berating our board members and telling us how dumb we look for saying we would rather have one recruit over another.
