TW-Media Still Bashing ND

Willingham addresses the football factory article that appeared in the LA Times. The writer also goes on to attack us again. Some people just don't want to let it die. It's over, he has another coaching job, we have another coach and now we are going to win on the football field and in the classroom as well. GOOOOOO IIIIIRRRRRISSHH!!!

What an irritating article. I absolutely hate 'reporters.'

"In other words, Notre Dame was like almost every other school in America. Winning was all that mattered."

Except for the highest graduation rate in the NCAA, real majors with top-flight faculty, and a tremendous support staff for our players, who could disagree? Yes, the tradition is winning. Very good. I'm glad you get paid for your 'expert' take on the matter.

And if Bill Doba thinks Willingham's a great coach, he must be a great coach.

Everyone knows my feelings about discussing Willingham at this point.

Still, this article disturbs me. Validation = Weis doing well and Washington sucking this year. That's about all it will take to shut these people up.

Look at the films people. ND couldn't beat Pitt and BC at home, but won on the road in Knoxville. Is that consistent coaching?

i got a kick out of willingham's reference to the fact that he's now coaching at a school that's only had one losing season in the past 30 years. THAT statement will come back to haunt him once he adds two or three more...

not to mention:

"In three years," Floyd Keith, the executive director of the Black Coaches Association, said at the time, "I think he has done everything short of winning a national championship, and I don't think he inherited national championship talent."

for real? i'm not sure i've ever seen somebody destroy their credibility with a single statement as effectively as Keith just did.

3-0, huh? Look out, the offensive juggernaut has entered the building.

Yea, I hope I did not jinx us. I just thought it was too funny not to post.

Come on guys...I have forgotten about the Willingham era...it is over. I am so estatic about our new coaching staff, especially Weis, that I have gotten over it. Yes, I was shocked, I thought he was going to turn things around. However, after reading more about what he did recruiting wise, he simply was not getting the job done nor was he going to be our guy. Foget about Coach Willingham and the lame ass situation surrounding last December. We have a Coach who has been bred under Coach Parcells and Coach Bilicheck. This new era in ND football deserves and bags our atttention. I am so into Coach Weis and what he has done that I simply cannot wait for September 3rd, especially October 15th.

Weis better win!

Weis better win!

It is wayyyy too early to begin enshrining Weis as the "Saviour." He must come in and WIN- all of the "preseason" talk won't mean much if he gets the players and CANNOT PRODUCE ON A COLLEGIATE LEVEL!

You people have been tortured with mediocore results for too long, take your minds out of there pessimistic ways. I simply do not believe Weis is going to make a fool out of himself, period. This is not Bob Davie, O'Leary, or Willingham....I do not buy the "well, he was no head coaching experience." That is a bunch of B.S....Weis has been bred ever since he was under Parcells for a head coaching position. Sorry, this is one head coach who I stand behind firmly....who is coming with me?!?

Regarding the Willingham article - Blah Blah Blah. Same old stuff. If there is a new and interesting viewpoint on the subject print it, if not leave the space blank or run a department store lingerie ad.

I think we (ND fans) have moved on. It's time for the media to move on also.

Weis is my man. I do not anticipate winning a ton of games this season, however, I do anticipate the team playing hard, smart and for the full game, just like Weis says. Compare it to Holtz's first year. The team went 5-6 (started out 1-4 which is possible this season), but we all knew something special was happening.

I would rather 6 win season with the team playing well and together than a 9 win season with the team just not clicking. A 9 win season with the team clicking will be a bonus.

The only teams on the schedule that have more talent than ND are Michigan, USC and Tennessee. ND beat two of those three LAST year. There is a better staff in place and a better game plan. They also get SC and Tennessee in South Bend.

Who's to say they'll only win 6 games? Why not 8 or 9?

i think this is a valid point. is it possible that we may come out and only win 6 games? sure. but the cupboards aren't so bare as to think that we don't have the same talent as a purdue or michigan state team. we've been outcoached for a few years now, but we've still got some talented players on the team.

IMO, the reason for all the debate is because nobody really knows what these kids are truly capable of doing. all the analysts are predicting a 6 win season for the Irish, but what if, just maybe, they're capable of more? weis is going to answer that question on the field in a few weeks.

There is no doubt that this team has plenty of potential. In my heart of hearts I want us to go 12-0, of course.

However, I will be happy and encouraged if I see a "nasty" team making hits and blocks, playing the last down of the game against Stanford with the same fervor and intensity as the first down of the game against Pitt, etc. If they play like that, I think the recruits will come (whether they are a 9 win team or a 6 win team), the wins will come (maybe not all next year - but eventually), and all will be right with the world. I think talk of wins and losses, while fun, sets us up to be dissappointed. I know part of what Weis is saying is political. He cannot predict a certain number of wins because if he doesn't acheive it, there will be plenty more fodder for the detractors. However, I truely buy into his idea that he just wants the team playing smart, nasty and completely. I am sure in his heart of hearts he wants to win every game too.

Point is I do not think he "has" to win a certain amount of games this year, even though they might win 8, 9 or......

The only games I am truly worried about are Michigan, USC, and Tennesee. However, looking at the schedule, Weis and company have two weeks to prepare for USC and Tenneesee. Not to mention, like previouisly stated, both are at home. I think we will be in nail bitters against Pitt, Purdue, and MSU. I believe that some of the opposing coaches are going to be second guessing themselves with Weis on your sidelines.

Going to Purdue is going to be a dogfight. We'll know just how NASTY those boys really are by how they play against the Boilers. They return most of their defense that was very good last year. They hit and get after people. ND will need to do that in a hostile road game to win it.

The opener against Pitt worries me just because that was my lasting impression of ND. I was at the game last year and didn't watch the SC or bowl game. Palko is a good player. The ND secondary is shaky at best.

But they are capable of winning both games. Remember, ND's offense outplayed Purdue's last year. I don't think anyone could have beaten Purdue that day.
