Wow, this sure exploded.
The arm's length win... it was sometime in the mid 90s, but I'm not sure what year. The last play of the game, we had a lead of 4 or 5, so Navy needed a touchdown. They had the ball down inside of our 10 with time for just one more play. The QB rolled out and threw it to the tight end, who caught it right on the one yard line, about halfway between the right hash mark and the sideline. As soon as he caught it, an Irish defender hit him hard and wrapped him up, but couldn't bring him down. The tight end tried to work around the right side, but the defender hung on and just kept pushing him sideways. The clock hit 0:00, the tight end finally got pushed out of bounds, and the ball never broke the plane of the goal line. But boy did it come close.
And chill out, peepz... I didn't neccessarily say that Navy would beat Notre Dame in 2005. I don't know when it will happen. But to say someone's on crack for pointing out the possibility is a bit heavy-handed. Navy is pretty strong, Notre Dame has significant gaps in talent, and this will be C-Dub's first year as coach. If Navy is ever going to beat Notre Dame, '05 would probably be their easiest opportunity for a while. And it will happen sooner or later. Sometimes, the Irish just don't win. See 2004.
