Wow, this sure exploded. :)

The arm's length win... it was sometime in the mid 90s, but I'm not sure what year. The last play of the game, we had a lead of 4 or 5, so Navy needed a touchdown. They had the ball down inside of our 10 with time for just one more play. The QB rolled out and threw it to the tight end, who caught it right on the one yard line, about halfway between the right hash mark and the sideline. As soon as he caught it, an Irish defender hit him hard and wrapped him up, but couldn't bring him down. The tight end tried to work around the right side, but the defender hung on and just kept pushing him sideways. The clock hit 0:00, the tight end finally got pushed out of bounds, and the ball never broke the plane of the goal line. But boy did it come close.

And chill out, peepz... I didn't neccessarily say that Navy would beat Notre Dame in 2005. I don't know when it will happen. But to say someone's on crack for pointing out the possibility is a bit heavy-handed. Navy is pretty strong, Notre Dame has significant gaps in talent, and this will be C-Dub's first year as coach. If Navy is ever going to beat Notre Dame, '05 would probably be their easiest opportunity for a while. And it will happen sooner or later. Sometimes, the Irish just don't win. See 2004.

It was the 1999 contest. I believe the 1997 game ended with Navy throwing a desperation pass that was also knocked out of bounds. They were also winning within the last 5:00 of the 2002 game when Ryan Grant tied it on a run and Omar Jenkins got hit for a deep pass to move the Irish ahead. I was at all three of these games, and I get them mixed-up, but they were all scary.

I'm predicting 9. I think they'll win the ones they are supposed to along with one upset against Michigan or Tennessee.

We'll see.

BUMP.

Guys, all is not lost. Take a look at this poll and see how our expectations were met. Amazing.

No wonder you're so angry.

I think you are referring to the 1995(?) game vs. Army at Giants Stadium. I was there in the driving rain. Army rallied from 3 TDs down in the 2nd half to come to within 1. They went for 2 pts and were stopped at the goal line as time expired.

Anyway, the first four games are going to be hell for the Irish. I predict an 8-4 season.

9-3 was my prediction, though I thought we were going to have a bowl victory. If Tennessee had lived up to expectations, and we had lost one more game during the regular season, we could have played in the Gator Bowl and I would've claim to be Nostradamus. (Actually, I picked 8-4, but who's counting.)

But yes, expectations (for me) were met. ND should never lose more than three games in a single season. Weis is .750, a percentage matched by about 10 coaches, the players' academic improvement has been noted, and we are recruiting at our historic level once more.
