Raeshon McNeil Decision Coming Soon

The 6-0 175 CB from Mocksville, NC will visit North Carolina this weekend. His decision could be within a week's time. McNeil has already visited Virgina Tech and liked what he saw. UVA the same. But Notre Dame appears to be in the lead and this visit to UNC could be a courtesy trip to the state school. The Tar Heels are coming into the game late.

McNeil will be the start. Should ND land him, Darrin Walls and Steve Brown....what a coup!! They appear to be right there for all three guys. With the CB needs being so urgent, these three will have to realize they'll see the field as frosh.

VA Tech will have 5 frosh DB starting in August. Michigan has quite a few as well, which could deter Walls and Brown.

Things are starting to take shape and it isn't even August yet.

What more can Weis do on the recruiting trail that he hasn't already?

We really need to land the big secondary recruit....could really open up the floodgates

Walls and Brown will cause everything to fall in or out of place. I can't see ND losing both to Michigan, but it is possible. I think McNeil is all but in.

Hopefully ND can grab 3-4 CB and a couple of safeties. They will need them down the road.

The only other area that is hurting more is offensive linemen.

I heard he is looking to get into an Archietecture (sp?) program and I heard ND has a pretty good one while UNC doesnt even offer one at all?

McNeil looks to be Irish folks :)

This is correct. McNeil is very probable. Most are expecting him to pick ND. He also wants to experience college away from home.

Please, no one mention the Lake Michigan snow effect on South Bend to him.

I can't imagine a football player being an architecture major. I believe Ricky Watters was the last player to have tried that. My architecture class at ND did have one varsity player from another sport, and he was a wreck for most of our sophomore year.

Interesting side-note: Leon Hart was an architect.

I was wondering when you were going to chime in on this. What are the daily rigors that would cause a player problems?

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves and have our hopes dashed. UVa has a very good Archy program as well. Let's just hope that he chooses Weisly.

Yeah, I have heard they do have a good archy program. However, comparing apples to apples here, the level of football and all things considered, the two universities are VERY far apart.

Sophomore year tends to be very difficult. People don't know how to manage time and end up spending hours upon hours in studio. Sleeping less than six hours a night is commonplace, and all-nighters tend to be treated like a badge of honor.

Junior year is in Rome. That's required, which hurts the whole play four-out-of-five years with-a-scholarship deal, even with a redshirt. You would miss that entire season, and not just practices. You would miss the games.

Senior year the classes are a little tougher because of structures, and you're usually trying to take care of any other classes needed to graduate. You usually manage your time fairly well, but still put in long nights at studio. If you are prone to the all-nighter, you may still log a few.

Fifth year you've got things figured out and tend to manage time very well, but you should also be working on a big undergraduate thesis project to end your academic career.

Sounds like quite a feat. How did Watters accomplish this? I would think they had to make several accomodations for him to complete the program.

They are also completely different curriculums. UVa is a weird, gooshy, earth-first trees-n'-stuff kind of place. Notre Dame is a classical program.

Both schools have tremendous reputations among practioners, but the Ivies hate what Notre Dame does because a belief in transcendent, timeless, ontologically-ordered design is supposedly 'backwards.' UVa certainly has a better academic reputation.

Thomas Jefferson was himself an architect. Having founded the University of Virginia, architecture is held in very high regard there. On the other hand, ND is among the nation's ten oldest professional curriculums in architecture and has established for its graduates a clear pathway to many reputable firms, particularly in New York, Washington, Chicago, and London.

I think Watters started as an architect and dropped-out after his sophomore year.

Gotcha... so everyone that keeps bringing his name up is in error. I would figure that would be almost impossible to accomplish while playing football.

SPOT ON, Svoboda. Can anyone tell me ANYTHING that the UVa FB or Men's BBall program has EVER won? For all of the hype UVa gets, it's one of the biggest choke schools of all time (i.e. Ralph Sampson......)

* Disclosure: I'm also biased as UVa rejected me, but the facts speak for themselves...

Yes and Northwestern beat ND and Michigan in the same year too.....what I'm saying is for all of the hype and recruits they've receive, they are one of the biggest choke schools ever.

I was kidding. To be honest, I'm quite indifferent to Virginia and the rest of the mighty ACC, or as I call it, "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen."

No worries. I used to really like UVa and the whole ACC (pre-expansion), as they seemed to embody great schools (most anyway) with very strong athletic programs. It was only later that I was told by a lifelong Virginian that UVa really only gets it exaulted reputation due to the miniscule number of out of staters that they let in and that most of in-staters are yokals from Fredricksburg, etc.

Your name is quite fitting, or used to be, now that Miami, VaTech and Bahstad College are in.

I was actually working on his profile last night. Hopefully I will have it complete and ready for posting this evening.

His commitment is very important. They are going to need all the help at corner they can get. McNeil would be the start, Walls would be a huge lift after him.
