I figured Id start an interesting thread here to see what team some of you guys thought was the best in the 1990's. There are alot of teams to remember, but the one I think of that I really enjoyed watching (besides ND) was Nebraska when they ran the option with Tommy Frazer and Lawrence Phillips. I remember the Fed Ex Orange Bowl when they beat the sh** out of Florida. (94 or 95?) That was a great game to watch, pure power football at its finest.

The 1992 Alabama team that creamed Miami in the Sugar Bowl was my favorite team of the 1990s. What a defense. They were dominant in every aspect of their D. Miami strutted into that one thinking they had it won and they got waxed. I believe the Tide went 10-1-1 in 1993 if I'm not mistaken, losing to Bobby Bowden's undefeated Auburn team.

That 93 Auburn team was probably the best in the country that year, but they were on probation. Auburn-Nebraska would have been a great title game. Then again, ND-Nebraska would have been a good one too.

oh yeah, i forgot how good the Tide defense was that year. That whole team was great. Remember Derrick Lasic? He was awesome.

It was also fun to watch Kordell Stewart run the option with Rashaan Salaam in the backfield. You guys remember the miracle in the Big House? Stewart threw that football like 60 yards or more. Michigan fans are still bitter about that.

I have to go with Alabama 1992. There last three games were Auburn, the SEC championship game (who was that against?), then Miami. Pretty tough.

Here is a pretty cool web site with summaries of college football teams' all-time records:

http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/database

Note ND's 1989 and 1993 "Other National Championship Selections"

I believe they pounded Shane Matthews and the Visor's Gators that year. First SEC Championship, if I'm not mistaken?

Tennessee in '98 was really good as well. We all know what happened to Peyton Manning, where in the heck is Tee Martin?

Oh jeeze, you guys remember Ki Jana Carter? He was a great college back. I remember watching the bowl game when Penn State played Oregon. The Lions first play from the line of scrimmage, Carter took it around the right side for about 70 yards and the score. Truly great team. They were supposed to be outstanding in '99, but i guess it didnt happen for them that year.

He was on the Oakland Raiders roster last year. Dunno if he is still with them or not.

Tee Martin got it done. Beat Florida and Florida State. Peerless Price went nuts in that title game.

Al Wilson...neanderthal linebacker.

I've always been partial to the '97 Michigan team with Heisman winner Charles Woodson. What a defense.

If only the BCS were in place a year earlier....Michigan and Nebraska in the title game would have been a good old fashioned Midwestern slugfest.
