Early line on the Pitt game has Pitt. -3.

Early line on the Mich. game has Mich. -13.

What's everybody think about this? I can see both games being close. Pitt/ND season opener, primetime on ABC. That game will be sick! Palko makes me nervous though, especially with our shakey secondary. The Mich. game might be a berry patch (perfect for picking). That game is always close. Experts are saying Mich will run right through our D-line??? ND wins anyways. I have a feeling our offense is gonna surprise some people, especially a suspect secondary of Mich.

i have a feeling weis will have 15-20 plays scripted for the offense to run right off the bat against pitt. Pitt will have no idea what hit them. And dont forget, weis will make changes in his gameplan if needed, something Ty was in the dark about. I think we have 100 days and counting until football returns, michigan will be a great game. I cant wait to see the offense under Weis.

I don't see Carr out coaching Weis, granted Michigan has more talent, but I expect ND to keep it reasonably close. In the future ND will beat Michigan routinely(As long as Carr is there anyway). Carr lost to TY twice in three years for Christ's sake.

Pitt will be interesting. I don't see Pitts D stopping ND. Palko is the real deal though. I'd expect ND to win this game....

Here's the real question - What degenerate gambler is laying heat on college football this early? My roommate Mitch Cumstein says take ND and the points against Pitt. Mitch would also like to know the over/under for total ND wins this season.

Guff, you just made my day.

Seriously, it's Memorial Day weekend. Don't punt without a long snapper.

You aren't a Michigan fan, are you?

Naaaaaah... the play on words is much too advanced for someone from UM.

UM can :kissmy: ND ass.

J/K... nice to see opposing fans on here! Hope to see you post more.

There is truth in that. We need a resident USC Trojan and a resident Michigan Skunkbear who can engage in intelligent conversation, dish it out and take it. It just makes life more fun.

:nanana1:

P.S. #1 Notre Dame 35, #2 Michigan 12 (1943). At least that game mattered.

The 38-0 bashing was one of the worst days of my life, but I did win money on that game. Saw it coming. That was in 2003.

Last year, on the other hand, was glorious payback. I'll give Ty credit for that one. Those boys were ready to play.

Last I remember, the Irish were victorious in the most recent season --- how quickly UM fans forget.

Its gonna be tough to win that game at Michigan though. I wouldn't put it past Weis, but that'll be a tough place to play for this team I think, so early into the tenure of a new coach

I'm actually from a "split" family from MI--we've got UM, MSU, and ND-ers. I've been to 8 or 9 games at ND stadium, but never a UM-ND game.... some day

Teaches you to have fun with it, but not to take it too seriously.

I'll be around from time to time.... But I gotta save most of my hating for the Buckeyes, LOL, one thing my whole family agrees on

BTW, I haven't forgotten last year, my point is that two years ago the game wasn't close at all...

Probably a lot of hate built up after Teddy Ginn ran all over them in Columbus last November.

Michigan is the only school I hate more than USC. How anyone can cheer for that school with Lloyd "Captain Crybaby" Carr on the sidelines is beyond me. If I cheered for a team with a whining coach like that, I'd probably get on a new bandwagon quickly.

Don't you hate OSU as well? No, not Ohio State. I mean Oregon State! Last time I checked, the Irish had two-Bowl-game losing streak to the Mighty Beavers [both by routes, in case your memory need a jog--41-9 ('01 Fiesta under Davie) & 38-21 (Last year's Insight under Ty)].

Will CW last long enough to get routed by the Beavers?

I hate oregon state, but its only because Oregon is full of hippies. Oregon State had a great team when they defeated ND with Davie, and the team was in no shape to compete with them when Baer was running the show. That crank is now in canada coaching. I like the UM/ND rivalry, but I dont hate UM like some people do. I hate Pitt and Purdue more than any of the teams we play this year. And Washington, just because Ty is there.

Oregon State = cast of Longest Yard. This is especially true when Erickson was there. See Miami Hurricanes of 1990s. I love being a Notre Dame fan and having the 2001 Fiesta Bowl thrown in my face. At least the 38-0 bashing in Ann Arbor was only a year and a half ago. If you really want to hurt my feelings, talk about BC in 1993.

I have lived in Chicago my whole life. I've been an ND fan my whole life as well. Due to proximity within the Midwest, I have never liked Michigan. Before, I could at least respect them, but Lloyd Carr is such a damn whiner. He and Joe Pa should get a room together. At least JP is a legend. I was all for the Big Ten tryinig out instant replay. If it is a deterrant from having to hear Lloyd cry, let's do it. Michigan should thank Notre Dame for hiring Charlie Weis. Weis will cut a leg out from Kirk Ferentz and Iowa in recruiting Chicago. Zook at Illinois will cut out the other. Thousands in the Out House will breathe easy now. Still have to deal with Ohio State (Longest Yard understudies).

I look forward to ND going back up to Ann Arbor in the Fall. USUALLY a competitive game, with the exception of the game that took place nearly two years ago that Michigan indeed won 38-0.

The ND/Michigan game, at least in recent years, has not faired well for the Wolverines. Lloyd Carr, as I am recalling (I could be wrong), has not won in South Bend, including the numerous times they were ranked in the top-10 and got knocked-off. But that famous game from the 70s where we beat Michigan with a blocked field goal attempt, or Rocket returning two kicks for TDs in a single game, or that wacky-ass victory with Jarious Jackson as qb in '98, and Shane Walton intercepting a touchdown pass to win the game...after batting down the previous attempt...that is the kind of goofball stuff that always seems to happen with this game...in ND's favor.

I have a particular disdain for Michigan too. Fielding Yost was an anti-Catholic bigot, and Bo Schembeckler sure has enough quotes to sound like one; further, Michigan was instrumental in keeping ND out of the Big-10 in the days when it actually would have been to our advantage. But that's also why playing them and beating them is so much fun.

As for Oregon State, Coach Ty 'integriTY' Willingham hired the offensive coordinator that Erikson used to drop bombs on us. That is why I actually think Willingham will be far improved in the upcoming years. Ty may have even kept his job at ND if he'd just fired Diedrick...who now works for free in Canada.

if tys new OC actually pays off for him and is great, then we the fans of ND will never hear the end of firing Ty from ESPN. Those assmunchers will never shut up about how stupid and mistaken the administration is and was. But im willing to bet when Weis gets the ball rolling and we are winning like we can, they will be scraping to broadcast as many games as they can and we wont hear a word about firing Ty. Only when we are down does ESPN like to bash us.

One thing I like about Carr is that he so openly hates the media. He's the anti-Pete Carroll.

But I will grant you that Carr is kind of whiny. In this he reminds me of a guy named Holz, minus the aw-shucks humor and the jughead ears.

Ohio State is the cast of the Longest Yard, Oregon State is the Understudies. I mean, how threatening and evil can you make a team called the Beavers?

Ferentz scares me. If he stays at Iowa, they're going to replace Nebraska as cornfield powerhouse.

And for the record, in reference to the first message in this thread, Michigan giving 13? I'd have to seriously consider taking the Irish and the points.

Pete Carroll or Lloyd Carr....please tell me death is an option.

Callahan will have NU up and running again, another thorn for Iowa. But they appear to be here to stay in the Big Ten. Ohio State and Michigan had better be ready.

That 2001 Fiesta Bowl Oregon State team made me sick. It was bad enough getting waxed in the game, but the extracurricular taunting, dancing and hully gully crap made it hurt that much more. They are the only Pac 10 team I hope USC beats every year.

By kickoff, that spread will be a lot less than what it is now.

i can appreciate a coach that openly hates the media, despite the fact that it may hurt more than help in the long run. but you're probably right, he is the anti-pete carroll.

comparing carr to holtz? i wouldn't go that far. holtz wasn't a whiner - he was self-deprecating, but not a whiner. big difference.

The "woe is me" and "we're not that good" mind games of Holtz used to crack me up. He worked the opponents and media as good as anyone.

Holtz teams were prepared to play, unlike what we've been used to since he left. Weis will bring that back. Hence, giving ND 13 points will not be a regular line in the future.
