He's a 2 star player on Rivals, and a 3 star player on Scout.

He had offers from Penn State, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virgina, and Northwestern.

We need depth at the LB position, so anybody at this point will do....

Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep linebacker Steve Quinn became Penn State's third verbal commitment this recruiting season when he called Joe Paterno on Friday and told the legendary coach that he wanted to accept the scholarship offer the Nittany Lions extended to him a few weeks ago.n chose the Penn State scholarship offer over offers from Syracuse, West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Delaware.

Notre Dame was a team Steve liked growing up, but an offer from the Fighting Irish never materialized.

"I just didn't feel like I was going to get a scholarship from [Notre Dame] and I didn't want to lose Penn State," said Quinn. "Penn State was probably my number one choice anyway, so I just went with Penn State."

What ultimately made him choose Penn State?

"Just the opportunity to play for Coach Paterno, and I really like Coach Vanderlinden. I like the school. I visited twice and I got to see the campus and meet some players (Dan Connor and Paul Posluszny). I liked it there."

"I did want to make kind of an early decision. I put it off a little bit because of the season. I wanted to concentrate more on the season. I just thought it was time to get serious and commit, so that's what I did.

According to Quinn, the Nittany Lion coaching staff is most impressed with his speed and ability to make plays. This is Steve's third year starting at linebacker. He also plays wide-receiver on offense. Steve had 2 catches for approximately 40 yards in Sunday's victory over Brooklyn's Poly Prep.

Interesting. I wonder how this all of the sudden came into play... I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds this odd.

Was he the only one? Kelly Green is reporting he was offered a scholarship while he was down on the visit, too.

Cushing has probably told Weis he isn't coming to ND, so Weis is offering some new guys (Peoples, Quinn) because we need to add some LB's.

Yeah, that makes sense but I was one who didn't ever really feel we had a shot with Cushing. Figured it would have come up before now.

He's officially received an offer. Kid looks like he has potential, he'll red shirt gain some weight, and could be an impact player down the road. Penn State does a good job with Linebackers, so if he's good enough for them I'll take him.

Here's what Travis Donnelly had to say about it.

"Quinn did receive an offer on Friday. He met with Coach Weis, on his way back to Foxboro, in an airport hangar. Really kind of a cool story...

"It all happened very quick," his coach Gill Brooks told me for an Irish Today report. "Notre Dame called to see if he was still interested and
then said he needed to fly out at four o'clock on Friday because Coach Weis had to fly back to Foxboro and they needed to meet. Well, they couldn't get him on a plane until seven o'clock and so Coach Weis
waited for him in the airport. It was a meaningful thing. When the brightest offensive mind in the NFL, who is taking over the most prestigious college program in the country, waits in an airport hangar
to meet you before he flies out to coach the Super Bowl, that means a lot."

He's going to sit down tonight with his family and make a decision. It looks good for Notre Dame. "
