Has ND at 44.

44. Notre Dame 2004 Record: 6-6 Independent
Is Charlie Weis really going to make a difference right away? (sorry yes)Probably not, and it's asking a lot for him to make the immediate splash Ty Willingham did (don't forget how the Irish won everything during the first part of Ty's first season). The 2005 Irish should be stronger on offense if, and it's a huge if, QB Brady Quinn can handle the Weis playbook. The receivers are there and Darius Walker is a good-looking young back, but there's still the question of overall team speed and talent.
Biggest offensive loss: RB Ryan Grant Biggest defensive loss: LB Mike Goolsby

Theyll see were they got off when we are a BCS buster next year.

preseason rankings are questionable in college football...preseason rankings released PRIOR to spring and summer camps are WORTHLESS.

Preseason rankings BEFORE LOI DAY AS WELL!!!!! Just more disinformation from "Faux News"...

Also, we WON"T be BCS busters, as we're already invited if we can get the requisite # of Ws.

BCS busters are your Utah's, TCUs and Boise States of the world, NOT ND

Exactly.

It is about as predictable as winning the lottery.

I agree the preseason rankings are Bogus at this point. Especially with so many new coaches at different key schools.
It is remarkable how much a change in coaching staff will inspire the "warrior ethos" back into a team.
I just want ND to be in the top 25 next year and stay consistant. I will be happy with that.

No worries. Apology accepted irishgo8. The BCS made an exception for ND when it was created.

? Isn't Justin Tuck the biggest defensive loss? I mean, don't get me wrong, Goolsby's great, but if I could have one or the other for another year, I'll take the late 1st-round defensive end who has the school sack record.

So i said. As for Ryan Grant being our biggest offensive loss i question that and i think there is another offensive player leaving who i thought was better but i am not sure his name. Do you think that Grant with his 2 yard a carry runs is our biggest loss when we have Walker and hoskins to back him up?

i would agree. that's another reason i wouldn't trust their assessment. i don't think they were our biggest losses on either side of the ball. i don't think they put much more thought into it than picking two senior starters off the 04 roster.

Regarding Tuck being our #1 loss on D:

In a vacuum, yeah, Tuck is our biggest loss. However, Goolsby's departure leaves us with Hoyte as our only experienced LB. Our D-line would be simply awesome with Tuck back, but as it stands it's still VERY strong. (Abiamiri, Laws, Landri, etc...)

edit: Forgot about Corey Mays at LB. Still leaves us thin, particularly against the pass.

So Fox reports it not as the biggest loss individually, but rather the biggest lost to the team as a whole.

Makes sense, but if none of those DL that replace Tuck make those sacks, I think Goolsby is an after thought. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
