Powlus was one of the top QBs comin out of high school...and he could of went to alot of top programs..Then why on earth would he go to ND and run the option...He wasnt a option QB....Was Holtz gonna change his system for him...let him throw?...He went down and McDougal came in and ran Holtz's O....Whose to blame...Injuries?, Powlus?, or Holtz?

In my opinion, all 3. Powlus should have never come to South Bend, Holtz should have been more flexible in his playcalling, and injuries can make any player a "bust". But I think if Powlus went to USC or UCLA (or even Florida), he would have had a much better college career...and still be in the NFL on someone's roster.

Again i may be debating with Lyght lol. If anyone of those was to be blamed it is

1. Powlus.

He was never an option QB and shouldnt have wasted four years at ND.
2. He probably got injured cause he wasnt suited for the option
3. U expect a coach with many years of expierence in a system to change it suddenly for his QB. No hed never do it and shouldnt do it for one of HIS recruits. they should do it if they r starting another coaches recruits. ie Ty with Holiday, etc

speaking of burnt diner toast before there was elvis patterson in the meadowlands (the original toast from parcells) there was chris "homerun" brown in south bend.

I'll throw in one more (for good luck) - Hiawatha Francisco --- I thought he was the next O.J. after his frosh season (part of me says thank God he wasn't). I am glad that D'Juan Francisco made a big impact for the Irish.

For modern day busts i would say a Maurice Stovall, Rhema Mcknight, Carlyle Holiday.

If Losingham was staying a t ND for another year Brady Quinn might have ended up on this list (if i remember right he was ranked 3 for quarterbacks) but i think Weis will do the same with Quinn as he did with Brady and i think having Cutcliffe wont hurt either.

If non - ND busts i would pick Chris Leak although again bad Urban may turn things around for that kid.

Poor Ronnie-P...the guy was really starcrossed. The wrong offense + no Moss = a flop.

BTW, welcome aboard KMac!

Thanks NDLyght37. I think more then anything the injury crippled his career, he seemed timid from then on out.

How about this Irish men's basketball team's 100th season? So much talent, but none of the success that was expected.

You cannot call Ron Powlus a bust for a lot of reasons.

First of all, "he was projected to win two heismans." BY WHO? Beano Cook? Give me a break. It was an ignorant statement to make by a very old man with about 3 marbles left in his jar....and that was over ten years ago.

Second, if anyone is a bust it is Lou Holtz for having Powlus run the option. Powlus was not Tony Rice or Kevin McDougal. He was not even as mobile as Rick Mirer was. He was a passer and a good one. Get out your media guides and look at the career passing numbers. Powlus is at the top of the list in most categories.

And yes, this year's men's basketball team gives me cramps.
