The media is on a mission to make Ty Willingham a saint and to say that ND did the wrong thing in firing him (moreover, that we blew it and that we'll never be able to do any better and the mystique is forever dead, yadda yadda yadda). Hence, Willingham will always be ranked ahead of Weis in these stupid articles.

In fact, we'll probably be called racists if we have the audacity to beat Washington 40 to nothing next year, and criticized for the further damage done to a great man. Deal with it. This has nothing to do with reality and everything to do with the media's agenda.

I'm more interested in the end-of-the-season coaches' poll ranking for 2007. That'll be a more accurate system.

Yeah I agree this guy must be taking the "good stuff"... Ty hasnt even assembled his entire staff yet. And he is already catching flak for not recruiting right off the bat.
I think it would be
C-Dub
Spurrier
Meyer

in no order but they all belong in the top three.

Much better list. I would flip 2 and 3, and also 4 and 5. Remember that this is a ranking of hires, and while I believe Weis can get it done and may be the best coach on the list, Meyer does already have a proven record as a head coach. From a hiring standpoint, he would have been my second choice after Spurrier. Why would you rank Whittingham ahead of Orgeron?

Partly because I mis-read the reasoning and ranked them according to how I think their teams will do. But I'm really big on Whittingham. I think he's a young guy that just needed a break (plus I'm a big fan of Andre Dyson).

I like Orgeron (USC had an underrated defense), but I'm not all that familiar with him.

If I were to do it over, I'd probably switch Urban & C-Dub, and maybe Orgeron & Whittingham as well.

I think Greg Robinson is going to do marvelous things at the 'Cuse. I think he should be higher then Whittingham at Utah since pretty much all of his core, skilled players are bolting.

Whatever....

Let these people think that we have nothing. I'd rather show it on the field than be on the front page of SI at this point.

The amazing thing is all the little trolls on the message board at sportline who agree w/ him. Me and some others attacked that ranking of weis at #8 and there were like a ton of people defending Dodd.

I read his column all the time, he totally has it in for Notre Dame. Every piece of news that comes out he finds a way to negatively spin it. I can't wait till he eats his words next season. I mean, I understand ranking Meyer and Spurrier ahead of Charlie, but how the hell do you have Ed Orgeron and Kyle Wittingham ranked ahead of a professional offensive coordinator w/ 2 superbowl rings???

On another note that's in a similar vein, I was reading this article on the ChicagoTribune.com that Charlie Weis is going to make himself the focal point of the program a la his coaching lineage (Parcels/Belichek/etc) and make it so he does most/all of the talking to the media rather than players and assistant coaches. the guy was ripping into weis for this! He thought that attitude wouldn't work in college football. I totally disagree, I think that's a great attitude to have as a coach in the pros and ESPECIALLY in college. Keep the pressure off the 19-21 year olds, keep it on the grown man w/ experience. Besides, its his job to lose anyway, if the team sucks the kids still get a free education. I don't know, I just wanted to hear what everyone else thought about this.

I agree having 19 yr olds getting interviewed every other week is not good for their focus. Young men have a way of thinking that the team and the publicity for the team revolves around them if they get too much outside attention.

If you think about it, that is the type of football player CW is looking for, somebody that is not turned on by personal glorification. He wants nasty players that only want to kick ass on the field, as a team.

I think having all outside distractions going through him is actually a very professional way to conduct business. He keeps control of every aspect of his team and limits the "inside scoops" and "hate articles" that people love to write about ND.

Also i dont get how u could put one of the top recruiters in the country behind those guys (Zook).

The fact is the media is just taking its final attack for the next 6 months on ND cause they r running out of big name schools to attack. ND, Bama, Penn State in the next few years will be right back to the top and then the media's fun on attacking the Big name schools will be over. But i think alot of the attack on ND is anti-Catholic bigotory. but u know what in a few years the media will be saying how Weis was such a great hire and ignoring there comments from the day they hired Weis. Thats what happened i believe with Ara and Holtz so i dont worry about this cr*p the media is putting out now cause in a few years they might just be :censored: lol

U mean this guy is a sports writer look at this From: abyssford

Focus on something positive! ("NCAA gets serious about school -- and some will pay", Jan. 14). Tell us which schools have the best graduation rates. Can you name the Top 10?

Back from the Abyss:

Not exactly sure, but here's a good start:

Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Lafayette, Bucknell, Yale, Stanford, Cornell, Penn, Dartmouth.

See any schools willing to sell their souls for a national championship BCS berth in that group?

The way I look at it is before and after - did you improve you position with coaching:

Zook to Meyer: BIG IMPROVEMENT
Willingham to C-Dub: BIG IMPROVEMENT
Holtz to Spurrier: No so sure it is a Big Improvement
Cutliffe to Orgeron This is not an improvement
Saban to Myles: Big Falloff
Pasqueloni to Robinson: Good Upgrade
Willingham is a great upgrade for U-Dub
