FireKentBaer.com, anyone?

Good luck in Washington, Kent. And thanks for doing such a bang-up job prepping our guys to play against a 6-5 powerhouse that calls themselves the Beavers.

Honestly, what the hell was Baer DOING for the past month?

Alright, Charlie, your turn now. Time to clean house.

Yeah, they stunk it up something fierce and it is a warming reminder why Ty and company are out the door.

While the refs made some very bad calls (ie the offensive pass interference on Jeff and that WAS a late hit on McKnight, etc) the playcalling was just gruesome and predictable. 1st down? Run it. 2nd down? Run it. 3rd down? Throw it. 4th down? Punt it. I mix things up better on ESPN NFL 2K5.

Just a total disappointment. The good thing though, I hope some undecided recruits were watching and saw how bad our secondary was. Come to Notre Dame and you'll start next year.

Did you guys think it would be any different?

1. Baer is part of the reason that Willingham got fired. His loyalty to an average group of assistants, while admirable, was his downfall. If the "D" is so bad, why make the Defensive Coordinator the Head Coach?

2. Did we really get up for the Insight Bowl (especially after all the coaching drama)? I doubt it. On the other hand, Oregon State was definetly excited about the game, and excited about playing ND,

3. This doesn't exactly apply to this game, but to Bowls in general. What reason (besides money) is there for spreading theese bowl games out over a month? D-IAA wraps up the post-season so much neater than D-IA. Granted they have as playoff, but D-IA can do better.

NDLyght is right. I could tell after the beavers second touchdown that they didnt want to be there. There was not one ounce of emotion on the sideline. hell, when notre dame cut the lead to 10, half the plyers on the sideline were playing grabass and didnt even know it. Oh jesus, and did everyone see mcknight drop the pass in the first or second quarter when they ran a tunnel screen? he was scared to get hit! he has dropped more balls than i can remember. he made up for it later though, but hes streaky. and why the hell hasnt the offense at least made an attempt to utilize holliday? that guy is an athlete and he was just used as a decoy the whole game. i wish he was here for another year because i think weis would exploit his talents. the game in general just didnt seem like a notre dame game, not because they lost, but because of their attitude. their just wasnt any heart or care out there.

...so THAT explains it! Kent Baer tanked his defensive strategy to help out Charlie Weis with his recruiting!

I sure hope brady makes some great strides next year he sure throws a weak ball.He gets those happy feet and refuses to get rid of the ball.Hopefuuly Weis will teach him to step up in the pocket and get rid of the ball.He deserves year to get better. If they bench after three years I am going to say what happened to ND they gave their black QB's four years(Took the words right out of Mark Mays mouth or would that be Trev Alberts)

Lol, that's funny. Quinn will get better though, he's only a sophomore. I hate to say this, but he'd of even gotten better if Willinham hadn't been fired, sheerly by just growing and maturing and seeing the field better as he got used to the speed of the college game. But I think with Weis he'll still be much better off than he would have w/ Willingham. I really like the kid, I know he shows his age sometimes on the field, but I really think he has the potential to mature into one of the better QB's in school history w/ the right mentor. And I think Weis is definately the right mentor, so we'll see.

I'm so disappointed. Not much more I have to say. I'm rooting against the teams I don't like from this point and it's off season after that. Let's go Weis.

I really like Brady too. After he kept getting up while getting quickly dropped again last year.He is a tough kid and you can't teach that. The only thing that stands out is he really doesn't have a lot of zip on the ball and a lot of them look wobbly.Weis really needs to work on that and maybe get him to run a little more.I know he will be fine it just kept showing up in the game last night.I can't wait till Weis names his staff. He sounded confident last night.I like all the hype the play by play guys gave about how they were going to ask all the tough questions and then all the soft ones came out.The one guy claimed to not even know the Superbowl was FEB.6.What a tool!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, that guy sounded drunk the whole game. he was slow. it took him 2 minutes to finish one sentence. he was an idiot too, just like that moron mark may at halftime.just when the whole race thing is quieting down he proudly throws in his two cents and brings it back to the spotlight. this jackass played for pitt in college and all of a sudden he knows the whole notre dame program. i would give trev alberts 50 bucks to grab him by the back of his head and slam it into the desk during the show.

Don't get me wrong we deserve some of it but to be constantly bashed is wrong. We dont have a lot of talent and two bad coaches have sent us in a tail spin. But like every other program you go though hard times(even though everyone at ESPN thinks USC has been competing fot the last 15 years).Like everyother program that is on top right now it took a good coach to change things around. The thing I can not stand is they say how bad we suck but give other teams such great credit for beating us.We play like a WAC team but Lienharts win over the irish sealed up the heismen.I wish Barry Bonds would get a white coach fired so they could have somthing else.A guy who does steriods and gets a white coach fired would have to overshadow ND.Wouldn't it?Although ESPN is letting a swimsuit model with a broken hip overshadow the 62,000 that died in that horrible tsunami.

They never should have played this game. The only thing they got out of it was an extra month of practice. Notre Dame is in the dark ages right now. It is going to take a lot of hard work by Weis and staff to get them out. Quinn under Weis should be very good. Still have no offense or pass defense. I feel bad for the players, but the administration reaped what it sowed last night.

And that offensive pass interference call in the first half was flat out HORRIBLE. One of the worst calls I've ever seen. I thought Baer was going to blow a gasket. I about did.

the boys have NO FIRE!!! all year they have letother teams push 'em all over the field. Just once I'd like to see someone get in someones face!!! I think we have nothing but a bunch of pretty boys who think all they have to do is show up!!!!! The coaching has sucked, but you've got to have some heart in your players. Half-ass effort gets half-ass results!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its pretty sad when a mediocre kid from a small 2a high school in georgia is your big threat in the backfield. Heck, the University of Georgia didn't even want a home grown kid fromtheir own backyard. The biggest positive for next year is that 8 defensive starters are gone!!!!

And what exactly did yelling at the refs solve? Baer and the team took it up the "rumpus" last night and all the yelling & screaming in the world doesn't change that. They just have to rebound from this and look ahead to training camp.

My favorite of the night was Ryan Grant and his feeble attempts at running the ball. Talk about dumb athletes (don't know how smart he really is) but it only seems like he can run a straight line.

Maybe that is the offensive philosophy but there were plenty of times that holes opened up that both Grant and Walker should have improvised and hit like the kid from Iowa State was doing in the previous game.

Yeah, the running game looked bad last night. The line did their part, the passing game (for the most part) did their job, specials teams stepped up in the end, but the "D" and the running game hurt us. But like I said, I really don't think they wanted to be there. Once the game started, the guys got competitive...but OSU was probably fired up ever since they found out they'd be playing ND on national TV.

At least I am not the only one who feels that way. That guy just looks for someone to tackle him(try running with your head up it's a whole differant world).Darius walker needs to be given the ball outside the tackles so he can make things happen. You can't keep running him up the gut all the time.At least with ty gone he can take that tired jail break screen with him. I think it worked twice in the second game and has been stuffed the last hundred times. So let's review Darius run outside,Brady releases the ball somtime within ten seconds and we get DBs over 5'5" who might get in front of a receiver to make a play. The "you are going to make an easy first down but after that I got wrapped up"defense is just not working.Does anyone know weises email address? :violent:

I knew we were going to lose this one. I didn't care, I'm waiting for next year.

I only watched the first half, offense was way too predicable.

I have always felt Ryan Grant wasnt as good as everyone is making him out to be. His biggest games were against mediocre teams, i.e. navy, and he didnt do squat when a real team was on the other side of the ball. He does just run a straight line, and the first defender that even touches him, even with one arm, usually brings him down. He is very easy to tackle. I dont know if he has plans for the nfl, but i wouldnt think pro scouts would want a guy in their backfield that was really easy to bring down, and didnt have real good vision on the field. Can anyone remember a spectacular run where Grant actually fought off tacklers, maybe put a great juke on someone, and made a long run. I dont. All his runs are straight off the playbook, if the arrow shows you going straight, he runs straight and looks only in that direction, not for cutting left or right. Darius Walker might be from a small school, but he has shown immense ability to be a great tailback. And as far as the screen play goes, im tired of that one too, escpecially the tunnel screen to the wideouts. The first time the Irish used that play it worked on Purdue, and they used it like 150 times in every game after that. Soon all the teams they faced were snuffing it out easily. But they still insisted on using it. It just further showed something wasnt clicking in the offensive coordinators head.

With a lil' more wieght, Grant could be a decent fullback in the league.

They need so much help up front it is sad. And as far as team speed, they have none. These needs must be addressed somehow. Holtz could coach slow teams, but that was ten years ago. SPEED KILLS. Weis needs faster guys on both sides of the ball, esp. offense.

Hey, everyone go easy on Ryan Grant. I mean, I know he's not Walter Peyton by any stretch of imagination, but its not all his fault the offense is boring and predictable. He's made some contributions over his 3 years, he's still one of only a handful of ND backs to go over 1,000 yards in a year, and from what I've been told he's a good senior presence in the locker room, which I think always should count for something. Did he get the ball too many times when better options like Walker were available? Obviously yes, but what's done is done and its not his fault anyway. Weis will come in and know who to go to and when so I'm not worried. And that would be cool if Grant could gain a few pounds and maybe find a position as a FB somewhere, although I doubt it'll happen.

ND has some speed guys, just need to use them better in a spread offense. Hoskins is very fast, everyone praised Stovall when we recruited him about how fast and big he was, stovall was clocked at running a 4.3 40, but they rarely throw it deep to him. We have speed corners in Lambert and Jabbie, who we recruited last year, but redshirted for some reason this year.

Theirs no Ginn jr. or reggie bush type players on our team, but we have guys with speed. Just need to open up the offense.

I agree

I was at the insight bowl - i thinkk Baer just did what he could do offensively - remember he is a DEFENSIVE coodinator. I wish we could keep him as Defensive Line coach

Speaking of Grant...that leads me to another tangent. What seniors do y'all think have a shot at getting drafted into the League?

goolsby and Curry are going in the 2nd or 3rd round. Grant has a shot at being drafted but it would be very late in the draft, most likely free agent signee. Budinzak will get drafted. great size. Pauly has a shot, later rounds. If Tuck declares I think he'll be a 2nd rounder, thiers about 6 or 7 defensive ends projected higher then him. If he chooses to stay another year he'll be a high pick, if he doesn't get injured (knock on wood).

Holiday, if he impresses in the nfl compounds. he'll sign with a team if he doesn't get drafted.

Levoir, offensive linemen, may enter the draft this year, he's considered a top ten guard, but he'll probably stay another year.

The last 4 years ND has ranked 6th in the country with players drafted. Just haven't turned out first rounders. With better coaching those same type players will be drafted higher. Look at last years draft, we drafted 5 guys, 3 of them are starters, Jones looks like a stud, Watson looks like a stud with the saints, and Glenn Earl has been great with the texans (he was considered one of the best hitters in the draft, knee injury pushed him back)

I'm hoping Weis brings in speed all across the board. USC, OU, Miami....these teams can fly, especially on D. Aggressive, intimidating defenders and blazing fast position players. There isn't enough of it out there now and hasn't been for a long time.

Ryan Grant has been a great ND student athlete. I think he will at least get drafted and remain in a camp. He doesn't have the speed for the League, though.
