Army held Navy to 186 rushing yards and 13 first downs. We gave up 348 rush yards and 20 first downs.

How can this happen? Army and Navy are ultimate rivals so we cant use the "Notre Dame is Navys Super Bowl" excuse.

Navy struggled to rush the ball in the first half and had 0 points at half time.

WTF gives? To me the ineptitude on the defensive side for ND is jaw dropping.

There is a two part answer to that, first for some reason the navy team became very ineffective against smaller quick defenses that more or less mirror there own players. Case in point , Navy had the same problems a few weeks back against a hawaii defense that really wasnt very good , yet they stopped and beat navy!--- a ierd match up thing as far as navy specifically

Second and more to the point are defense underperformed all year in a downright Shameless fashion! We went from 39th in total defense the year before under corwin to a rating of 2,729! An embarrasing defense as the year went on, hopefully new coaches, new scheme, a training table and a better use of our personel can make a huge turnaround in one year. Afterall the 2009 defense didn't set a very high mark to outdo.

Army busted out the cavalry, mechanized infantry, and those sneaky Inglorious Basterds.

Discipline! To stop the option you have to be a discipline defense. ND defense this year did not play discipline…

what baffles me is how u can be the 2nd best runningback but somehow your the best player in the nation?

I thought the same damn thing and then I saw what IrishR#1 said in his response and he pretty much summed it up......We sucked, thats why. But then now that I think about it I wouldnt say we necessarily sucked.....WE WERE JUST WAAAAAAAAY UNDERCOACHED AND UNDEVELOPED!

Well, army runs the same offense. I'm sure Ellerson pretty much knows how to slow down the option after running it forever.

I mean if I had to prepare for the option, I would take Paul Johnson as my DC over anyone else.
