Great article in tribute to ND great, Rocky Bleier, on www.blueandgold.com. He is a true American hero. Even though his ND career was impressive as a vital cog of the 1966 National Champions, his heroics in the Vietnam war trumped both his college career as well as his success w/ the Pittsburgh Steelers dyansty of the 1970s.
What a resume this guy owns; not to mention the hardware:
1966 National Championship football ring
Purple Heart
Bronze Star
1974 Super Bowl Ring
1975 Super Bowl Ring
1978 Super Bowl Ring
1979 Super Bowl Ring
and just awarded the "Distinguished American" award by the National Football Federation.
I vaguely remember the made for TV movie about his courageous comeback based on his autobiography. Robert Urich (star of Spenser for Hire & Vegas) starred as Bleier.
