The orginial Big East as you know it is no more. At least for now. They will have to change their name.

The Catholic 7 leaving the Big East (DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, and Villanova) are taking the name with them. The Catholic 7 (Butler & Xavier expected to be added) will now officially become the Big East, while the current Big East will have to change their name.

Creighton, Saint Louis and Dayton are expected to be added for 2013-14.

Rick Pitino on the Big East name-

"You have some of the great, great traditions in college basketball. They should have gotten together, made their strong basketball league, sell their own deal and they should be the Big East. They should be playing in Madison Square Garden.

"Football is running our country right now."

Basketball-only conference? What is this, 1979?

Anyways, I'm happy my alma mater (Villanova) found a good home. They should make a new sportscenter commercial with a Bearcat and a Husky standing on a ledge.
