Sorry to be a wet-towell, but I have a little concern about Purdue heading into game #5. Purdue is 4-0 coming into this rivalry match. They are definatly going to have last year's sha-lacking on their minds. They have nothing to lose, as far as pride, coming into South Bend. I almost believe that we play better on the ROAD from what I can see in Charlie's home and away record with ND. Plus, I still don't believe that we have put together a completely dominant game against any of our opponenets this year. Each game we have lacked in some aspect of our game, mainly running the ball, putting pressure on the QB on a consistant basis, and (I could argue) about BQ's decision making.
First of all, I know Purdue has had a weak schedule beating the likes of Indiana St., Ball St., Miami of Ohio, and Minnesota. But that just tells me they have a lot of momentum heading into South Bend.
As far as our lacking in aspects of the game:
1) DW hasn't been the same with Asaph out and Munir has been a non-factor. Hopefully Asaph will be able to play this week (no knock on McConnell) and James Aldridge can impress with a few strong carries ala Julius Jones.
2) We put pressure on the QB when we need to but pressure from Abiamiri and Frome has not been what I expected from two seasoned veterans. I would like to see more of MoRich in this game to pressure the Purdue QB into making bad decisions.
3) As for BQ, it seems like he isnt on the same page trying to hit carlson and DW in the flats. Almost as if he is throwing too early or Carlson and DW are turning their heads too late. These put us in awkward situations with our 3rd down efficiency, forcing us to be somewhat predictable on 3rd and long situations.
I don't think that Purdue's defense can match up to GT, Michigan, or Michigan State but I don't want to be overly confident on any game. On that note, GO ND beat Purdue.
