Prof. Kaveny on The Daily Show

Cathleen Kaveny, Professor of Theology at Notre Dame University was the guest on The Daily Show last evening (3/1). The extended interview is up on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - Political Comedy - Fake News | Comedy Central and I highly recommend giving it a view.

Topics of discussion revolve around Catholic views on contraception and the process' the church uses to develop doctrine as well as it's interactions with contemporary society. Very thoughtful and well articulated discussion.

It was also nice to hear Jon end the extended interview with, "and go Fighting Irish!"

I love the Daily Show and Colbert Report. I think those guys are hilarious. The one thing I can't stand about the shows though are when people go on there for interviews and take themselves too seriously. She didn't and I thought she did a very good job of combining humor with real thoughts and information.

Colbert is terrible, in my opinion. So over the top that it gets tiring almost instantly.

The Daily Show is great at what it does. I pay enough attention to politics and whatnot to know what it being taken out of context, so his bits in the beginning don't bother me too much; but I do worry about the less-than-cognizant folks try to get their news from him.

But when Stewart is interviewing someone, and the person is willing to tango and not just throw out ridiculous ****, it is amazing.

I pray that I will see the day when Jon Stewart, Juan Williams, Greg Gutfeld, and Dana Perino have a show with all of them actually discussing, with great humor, actual political events intelligently and fairly. It would crush every show out there and actually raise the national conversation on politics.

You don't like Colbert because you are a sober, sane, Toledoan.

I like Stewart because he is a genius. To hear the professor and him having a deep meaningful discussion like they did was joyous for me. I mean it moved so fast that one could hardly keep up. I saw part one last night and could hardly get to sleep.
