Call me crazy, but has anyone considered that Notre Dame may already have a person better qualified to lead the Irish on its payroll already? I'm talking about Jon Tenuta of course. It wasn't that long ago that Tenuta was seriously being considered for Auburn's vacancy. This man knows football and more importantly knows 'college football.' I dont know how good your memory is, but I can still vividly remembered Tenuta's defense shredding a Weis offense. He's been around and had enough success to merit a chance at leading a big time program. Season after season he put together a ferocious defense at Georgia Tech no matter how many starters he lost. Tenuta is well liked and well respected among the college coaching circles and could be ND's diamond in the rough.
If things go sour with Weis after NEXT season, and I say next season because I fully believe he deserves and will get one more year to try and lead the Irish back to success, the higher-ups must give Tenuta a serious look if he hasn't left for a head coaching position already. He will already know the players he has to work with, the facilities, and the incoming recruiting class.
I understand this is a huge 'what if?' situation but it's definitely some food for thought. Almost time for kick-off now, should be interesting to see if the team comes to play for their coach.
